Honestly, none of us are actually a 'pre-med' major, we are just spread throughout the science majors, dabbling in different areas and if you really want to torture yourself, you might even be a physics major as a pre-med. Regardless of the specific discipline, all students studying to go to medical school all feel the same very unique feelings. Sometimes these feelings are something only your fellow pre-med friends understand, which makes their importance so important. In a major that should easily be the most competitive, I have never been surrounded by more helpful and supportive people in my life. We truly are in it together. Here are ten feelings we have all had on the daily.
1. When you tell people your major and they tell you how hard it is.
Personally, I try to repress the fact that my classes can be pretty challenging, but hey thank you for the reminder. We also aren't doctors yet, I really don't know what your illness is and you should probably go to an actual doctor.
2. Watching everyone start labs and clinicals in their future field while you sit in the lab all day.
I have never met more resilient people than my friends in classes. Truly just trusting the process, and hours upon hours in the library to memorize equations that you are just praying you will actually need one day.
3. Trying to trust the process when you study all night for classes that seem totally unrelated to what you want to do.
No hate, but physics is NOT my cup of tea.
4. The endless emails reminding you about all of the MCAT prep available.
Don't get me wrong, I need to take part in all the help there is, but to read about this test 24/7 really grows on you.
5. When you have a one hour break in between lectures and labs, and this feels like the greatest blessing.
An hour???? A whole sixty minutes???? Do you even know what we could get done? These wonderful minutes are our free time of the whole afternoon, which will not be wasted.
6. That rare chance you get more than six hours of sleep, are showered, and have had more than one social interaction outside of a library in a day.
This is a REALLLLY good day.
7. Trying to keep your resume up to date while balancing everything else.
Classes and labs 9 am-5 pm, 5 pm-8 pm clubs and activities, 8 pm- never-ending homework and making sure you are actually doing well in said classes and clubs.
8. Knowing you still have at least four more years of being a student before adulting.
Adulting? A real job? See you never!!! Student for life!!
9. Teamwork is dreamwork with your lab group.
Need to get out of lab early? Only possible with the best lab group working together.
10. At the end of the day, knowing you are never struggling alone.
All jokes aside, the endless hours studying and in class or labs, you never do it alone and the friendships you make during these times are probably the most important and these people tend to be the most supportive group of people you will ever meet.
