When reading a book, I have so many different feelings going on. Sometimes they are good feelings, like when a main character is finally getting together with their soul mate (even though it should be me). Sometimes they are bad feelings, like when my favorite main character dies in a very unexpected way (thank you, Veronica Roth). However, I always know that my beloved characters are just waiting in the wings for me whenever I need them. I wrote a pile of 10 different feelings I get and probably many other readers experience at least once, if not multiple times, in their lives.
1. That feeling when you buy a new book and smell its' pages for the very first time.
Because, deep down you know, that nothing smells as good as a new book.
2. That feeling you get when you try to find the perfect position to read while staying warm under a blanket.
You know, when you spend 20 minutes rolling around and eventually give up to reading under a blanket fort.
3. That feeling you get when you are so totally in love with a character, but you also know this other character would be perfect for him/her, but so would you.
The struggle is so real.
4. That feeling you get when the main character does something or is about to say something stupid and you have to put the book down just to sigh out loud.
Remember, you tell yourself, they must know what they are doing (as everything is blowing up in their face in the next chapter).
5. That feeling you get when your favorite character dies and you don’t know how you will be able to live or continue reading the book knowing he/she doesn’t exist anymore.
I’m talking to you John Green, Veronica Roth, Cassandra Clare, and Suzanne Collins.
6. That feeling you get when you read about how awesome places like Hogwarts, Camp Half-Blood, Shadow Falls, and Narnia are and how badly you want those places to be in reality and not in your head.
Except The Hunger Games Arena; I don’t think people want that to happen.
7. That feeling you get when you don’t actually remember picking up a book and reading.
All you see is what’s happening in the book and when you’re done, you have to focus back on what’s happening in reality because, for a few hours, those 300 pages were reality.
8. That feeling you get when your favorite book series gets turned into a movie and all of your friends are avoiding you during the opening week because they know how you are.
Let’s be honest here, most book-turned-movies never get the simplest stuff right. You know, when a character’s hair is supposed to be blonde and she comes out with dark brown hair? Or when a series is supposed to have 11-year-old kids as the main characters, but they chose adults?
