My fondest memories from my childhood stem from the games I played with my friends as well as with my brother. These included a plethora of imaginary games, where we’d pretend to be secret agents on high profile spy missions, or adventurers in search of valuable items for our archeological collections. On certain days, all of the neighborhood kids would split up into groups- half of us as cops and the other as robbers, where we’d chase each other around on our bikes. I even remember creating home movies with some of our childhood best friends where we’d plan out skits and perform them live for our audiences (our parents were our biggest fans).
We also indulged in our fair share of electronic games, including but not limited to the classic pokemon gameboy games, or diving into the world of Club Penguin. Board games were also some of the best ways to pass the weekend, my favorite being Monopoly (although I’m pretty sure my brother and I were too lenient with the rules).
It saddens me to know that not every kid will have the same experiences most of the undergraduate college students these days had as children. Nowadays, children are exposed to the world of high tech technology that none of us could have dreamed of owning back when we were growing up. It made me think back to all of the games I spent hours playing, and whether they survived the technological tsunami of iPads and game consoles. Here’s a look at the images of my top 10 favorite games back then and what they look like now.
