10 Facts About Makeup Addicts
That's Vogue

Makeup has been getting more attention as the years go by. With new styles, products, and tips and tricks on how to use makeup, any woman (or man) has seen it on their dashboard of social media. Makeup to me personally is a form of art and anyone can have fun with it. Here are 10 facts that I personally have noticed as a makeup addict myself.

1. We chose to go to Sephora (or Ulta) any given time of day

If I were to be more honest, I could spend a whole day in Sephora or Ulta. Makeup addicts love to see what’s new and what product they don’t have and can get their hands on. There are so many products that we just want to see and especially the ones we don’t know about. There is no possible way to walk in either of these stores and walk out without having at least 10 swatches on your hand (or anywhere else whenever you run out of room on your hand).

2. We spend more time watching makeup tutorials than studying

Don’t get me wrong, we care about school and make sure we are doing well in it, but in our free time I can guarantee that I spent more time overall watching tutorials than studying because I just keep finding new ones without realizing. I would never jeopardize my grades just as anyone else but I can’t deny would rather “study” makeup. Sorry mom.

3. We would rather spend more money on makeup than clothing

We are so cheap when it comes to shopping for clothes. I would never usually spend $40 or $50 on top or a dress. When it comes to a new eyeshadow palette, foundation, or highlighter, I would throw my money at it. Usually it is because clothing can quickly become a style I don’t like anymore or it gets ruined in the wash and with strict return policies, I’m stuck with it. But when it comes to shopping at Sephora, you can return a product even if it’s used. That’s a good deal I’m willing to count on.

4. There is no such thing as too much highlighter

There is no better feeling than knowing you’re shining and glowing up the world. And to do that physically, we can’t resist putting on highlighter basically every day. There are some people out there who like a subtle highlight but for makeup addicts, there is no such thing as a subtle highlight. As said by Jaclyn Hill, “If you want to have a highlight that is so intense and so beaming that it scares people and it sends signals to outer space and confuses NASA…” then pile that highlighter on your cheekbone.

5. We can never have enough makeup

A big problem for makeup addicts is that we become makeup hoarders. We already have our own stash of makeup that is way more than what the average person needs. However, we can’t stop there, we need what’s new and when we hear of a new brand we need to try their products. These new brands could be better than the ones you’ve already tried, and why not try something new?

6. We form friendships over the topic of makeup

Many of my best friends are also makeup addicts and we first become friends over our love for makeup. These friends are also much more beautiful on the inside. It’s much for fun for someone to love makeup when you have others who do as well and you can spend all your time talking about it to each other. You give each other tips and show them something new and best of all, you tell each other how good your makeup looks giving you a great confidence boost.

7. Makeup isn't worn because we feel insecure

I used to specifically only wear makeup because of how insecure I felt about myself. I would want to only cover up all my flaws and blemishes and hated how I looked without it. But now as I’ve grown and learned more about myself and how looks isn’t everything, I grew to love makeup just for what it was. We can go out without makeup, and we do, but it doesn’t mean we always need it. It’s important to have a good skin care routine because it’s important to take care of skin while using makeup.

8. We don't do this to impress ANYONE

What’s forgotten about specifically women who wear makeup is we wear it for ourselves. There is a stigma against us that we wear it only in a fancy or professional setting to make ourselves look good for those occasions (women also don’t need to wear makeup for professional settings if they chose not to). Makeup is worn by anyone and for anytime they want to. I can do a full face of makeup to school if that’s what makes me feel happy. A finished look can make us feel uplifted, empowered, and confident. Therefor, no one should live up to anyone else’s expectations, only your own.

9. We understand that makeup has no rules

A phrase commonly said between the makeup professional is that “makeup has no rules.” We can chose to do our makeup however we please, but there are ways to make it look a certain way. We have to let people express themselves in any way they would like, and if that’s wearing blue or green lipstick then ‘you do you.’

10. We use it because it's FUN

Makeup is fun, and that is the main reason I wear it. I get this high from knowing I 'slayed' my winged liner, and contoured my cheeks and have that perfect sculpted look. Just as I said in my description above, makeup is a form of art and there is no denying that. Makeup is used for TV shows and movies and these makeup artists are beyond talented, and I believe they have a great time doing it. So let’s keep a positive stigma on the topic of makeup and let anyone enjoy it.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
