We have all had it happen before: you are talking to someone and all of a sudden they fall off the face of the earth. You tell yourself that there is no possible way that they are ignoring you on purpose. It's totally normal though; we all make up crazy excuses as to why we are being ignored. After not hearing from someone for more than 20 minutes, you are probably guilty of using some from the list below.
1. They are probably just at work.
It's against company policy to be on their phones, so they are just following the rules, right? After they are done with work, you will definitely hear back.
2. Their phone might be broken/off/dead.
How can they read or even answer the message if their phone isn't working properly? We are all on our phones so much these days that they lose power so fast.
3. They're intimidated by you for making the first move.
It's not the 1950's anymore. It's totally normal for either person to make the first move if they feel it's right. They might have it set in their mind that a certain gender should make the first move and now they don't know what to do.
4. They definitely opened the message and forgot to reply.
Ignore you? Never. They most likely read the message and forgot to reply because they got distracted, that's all. Everyone is doing a million different tasks at once these days. It's easy for one little text to fall through the cracks.
5. The message didn't go through.
Sometimes messages don't make it from phone to phone, especially if they don't have iMessage. How are you to know if that pesky green text message ever got to their screen?
6. They are probably just in class.
Maybe they are a great student and don't actually look at their phone while they are in class. They are probably serious about their studies and must eliminate all distractions to get the most of their education.
7. They went to bed early.
Maybe they have a long day tomorrow and decided to get some extra rest. Everyone loves sleep and with the crazy life college students live, there is no telling what time you end up going to bed.
8. They are just really bad at texting.
They could be one of those people who really hate texting so they are really bad at it. Maybe they feel it is pointless and prefer talking on the phone.
9. They must have lost their phone contacts.
People's phones crash all the time. Maybe they lost all of their contacts and are currently trying to sort out everyone's numbers.
10. They don't know what to say.
Maybe when they read my text they didn't really know how to keep the conversation going.
Any of those sound familiar? If they do, I hate to be the one to tell you, but the majority of the time they are just not interested. If they wanted to talk to you they would. Don't give up though; there are many other people in this world that you have yet to come across.
