New year, new you.

1. A really cute desk calendar

This doubles as an organization tool and a cute piece of décor. Every college student knows that time management is essential in college.

2. A whole new wardrobe… who wants to see that pink sweater again?

Everyone saw your favorite cute sweater you wore every week last year. This is a new year and it’s time to change it up. Challenge yourself and buy three new sweaters and put your favorite sweater in the back of the drawer.

3. A six-foot phone charger

It is such a struggle having to lean over after you take a nap to see who texted or Snapchatted you. Investing in a six-foot charger is going to be a life changing move. Instead of doing acrobat moves to check your phone from your bed, now your phone can conveniently lay next to you.

4. New wall décor to change up your room

You remember what your room looked like last year. Your best friends remember exactly what your room looked like last year. I’m not saying to completely redo your room because, let’s be honest, your bedding was expensive, but add a new piece. Change out one piece of art for a new one. Surprise your friends and invest in a new trendy saying for your wall.

5. Netflix subscription

How can a college student live without this? And with the new law that says you can’t share your Netflix password you will need to get your own account ASAP.

6. Hulu subscription… because you watched everything on Netflix

If you went to college last year, chances are you watched every show and movie on Netflix. I am not saying to delete your Netflix account because new things get added each month, but definitely invest in Hulu. New shows and movies — YAY! What could be better than sitting in your dorm room on a Sunday afternoon and starting a new show? Nothing.

7. An absurd amount of pictures of your dog

Let’s be honest, the one thing you are going to miss from home so much is your dog. Make sure to bring enough pictures to fill up the back of your desk when the daily FaceTimes are not enough.

8. Brand new school accessories

Who doesn’t get excited when shopping for new notebooks and pens? You probably won’t use that stapler as often as you expect, but you have to buy it.

9. New school bag

You can’t walk around school with the backpack you wore last year… Why not buy the new long champ bag — or even a new one from last season if it’s on sale.

10. A positive attitude

Why start school with a negative attitude? You are going back to a parentless place where you can go out as much as you want and eat as much as you want. Start school with a positive attitude so you can get the most out of this upcoming year!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
