10 Essentials For A Cross-Country Road Trip

When packing to get ready to travel across the country, there are so many things that you may need. But when you're flying to one destination and traveling back, you need to make sure you follow all of the rules that come with flying, while also making sure that you have everything you may need for the car. There are many things on the list, but there are some that you really can't forget.

1. Tent

Now I know this sounds scary, but it will be fun and worth it. It will also make your trip a little less expensive and as long as you pair your tent with an air mattress, it will be more comfortable than sleeping in the car! And don't forget the extra blankets!

2. Cell Phone Charger

There can't be anything worse than your phone dying when it's also your GPS… make sure you have at least two because when a phone dies, you may not have anything to take pictures on or any ways to listen to good music.

3. Many Cases of Water

It's cheapest to go and buy them from the store rather than buying individual bottles when you find a convenience store. And to go with it....

4. A Cooler

This is essential for cold water. Your cooler can also be packed with some snacks for your trip (like granola bars or fruit) and even bread, lunch meat, or peanut butter and jelly. They can also double as ways to make lunch or dinner easily while you continue onto your next destination! Reminder: when you go to a hotel, don't forget to fill it up with free ice!

5. Plastic Bags

These are useful for dirty laundry - especially when you don't want it getting mixed in with your clean clothes - and trash! You definitely don't want the car turning into a dumpster.

6. Umbrella

Imagine stopping somewhere and it just pours the whole time. With an umbrella, you'll at least stay a little dry on your walk around town. Don't let the weather rain on your parade.

7. Sunscreen

This is a huge necessity for beachy locations or just traveling anywhere in the summer. It will be very hard to have so much fun if all you're thinking about is the sunburn on your back.

8. A Roll of Toilet Paper

Honestly - you never know.

9. Quarters

These are needed, especially if you're planning on doing laundry. It's going to be necessary and unavoidable at some point during your trip. But this is also beneficial for the tolls you may run into. It is avoidable, but sometimes it's so far out of the way just to avoid a $1.50 toll.

10. Bug Spray

The mosquitos love summer (and humidity), too.

The car rides will be long and the living conditions won't be awesome, but your trip will be worth it and will be a once in a lifetime memory. Just don't forget these essentials.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
