10 Encouraging Bible Verses For The New Year

Because the trend of complaining about how much the year sucked is getting old.

At the end of every year, I start seeing extreme amounts of posts on social media that go something like this:

"Me at the beginning of the year: 'I'm gonna make 2016 my year!'
Me at the end of the year: '2016 was the worst year of my life, and I can't wait for it to be over!'"

So...to stop this trend, maybe it's time to make a real change. In 2017, put your faith in God first. If you take it seriously, there's no chance that you'll be able to say at the end of the year that 2017 sucked. Here are ten of the best verses (NIV) to help you start the new year off right.

1. "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." - Romans 8:182. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" - 2 Corinthians 5:1

3. "My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." - Psalm 121:2

4. "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." - Proverbs 16:3

5. "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:13-14

6. "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end." - Ecclesiastes 3:11

7. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6

8. "You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." - Ephesians 4:22-249. "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." - Colossians 3:12

10."May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed." - Psalm 20:4

In 2017, give your hopes and sorrows and dreams and troubles to God. He's a pretty powerful dude...I think he can handle them and sort them out for you. Look at the new year as a fresh start to be the person you intended on being last year, but actually make it happen this time. Happy New Year!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
