10 Things All EDM Festival Goers Know

1. We’ve got the coolest stages EVER.

You won’t find a stage that’s cooler than an EDM festival stage. Plain and simple. We’ve got giant owls, castles, and so many other insane stages. And on top of it, there is always fireworks, smoke, and fire shooting out of them.

2. The nicest people go to EDM festivals.

You meet so many new people at festivals, and they are all so wonderful. People come from all over the country (and world) to celebrate music, dancing, happiness, and life. Being at these festivals with over 200,000 people just like us is just amazing.

3. The weirdest, craziest, and wildest people also go to festivals.

Okay, so I’m sure you’ve heard insane stories from festivals. From people literally eating shit (yes, out of the toilet), to people whipping out what they’ve got and peeing in a crowd, some pretty insane people go to festivals. You’ll also see some people wearing fuzzy animal spirit hoods, crazy bracelets (which we call Kandi), and you’ll see drugs. Lots of drugs. But you do you at these festivals, and nobody really judges, which is awesome.

4. PLUR

We all know what it stands for. Peace, Love, Unity, Respect. We’ve all done the little Kandi tradeoff with someone at one point or another, and we love to do it! We’re all about PLUR…well- until it comes time to leave the parking lot at the end of the night. Then its every man for himself.

5. There are some pretty cool (or funny) totems.

Some totems are so cool, and you wonder how the person had that much patience to make something like that. On the other hand, some totems are just plain funny. Totems are a great way to find your group in a crowd of people, and also to get attention and meet lots of new people!

6. What are clothes???

I feel like festivals are some sort of heaven for guys. A bunch of girls walking around in booty shorts, small tutus, bras, or pasties is just something that no guy would turn down! I mean, guys walk around shirtless too; but most girls forget what clothes are once festival season comes (totally not a bad thing)

7. Your ears ring and you’re deaf for about a week afterwards.

“WHAT?” “WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?” I feel like that’s all I say for a week straight after festivals. The bass is still booming in my ears forever, and I feel like there is still music playing, even when I’m sitting in the hotel room in silence.

8. Bring your entire life savings with you.

Me: “Can I have chicken tenders and a soda?”

Cashier: “Sure, that’ll be 9,000,000,000$.”

**Gets 2 chicken tenders and like 6 fries**

Want a drink? 14$. Lunch? 20$. A festival shirt? 60$. Nothing is cheap. My wallet hurts so much after festivals.

9. The performers make things interesting

From clowns to plants to who knows what- the performers are always so cool to watch and be around.

10. Shuffling is the coolest thing ever.

It just looks so cool, and everyone at the festivals loves to see it. Some people look at you like you’re crazy, but others will join you and make it even more fun!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
