Why try dieting when it's easier to try these resolutions instead?

10 Easy Resolutions For The New Year

Every first or second of January, I set the same resolution for myself as I did the previous year: becoming a healthier individual. When I decide this, I hope that I will become a thinner version of myself with a healthier diet by the end of the year. However, I am still the lazy, potato-obsessed individual I was at the beginning by the end of December. I never can keep up with my resolution, and I am always determined to create one that is desirable yet manageable for me to achieve. I know I am not the only person who struggles with this problem. I want to benefit from making a change in my life, but I know that it's more difficult than what it seems. Instead of attempting to change my eating habits to lose weight for the hundredth or so time, I have decided to try a new resolution. If you're stuck on what to strive for this year, here are a few other options that are just as easy to reach as my own personal goal.

1. Do something nice for others. It doesn't hurt anyone to give a compliment or volunteer some free time.

2. Plan more events with your friends or family members.

3. Create a budget to control your spending. Lock away the card and use only the money in your wallet.

4. Learn a new skill or something new (like a word) every day.

5. Spend less time on social media. There are more important things in life than the number of "likes" you received on your Instagram photo.

6. Try to take the stairs once a day because we all know how difficult it can be to find time to go the gym.

7. Meet new people or get to know more about the people you already acquaint yourself with.

8. Improve your health by watching your meal portions and regulating your sleep cycle. Skip the diet because it leaves you miserable and hungry.

9. Study more and work harder - that "A" or big promotion isn't just going to appear out of the blue.

10. Appreciate yourself more because you are one-of-a-kind. Give yourself the credit you deserve and don't be so harsh. Nobody is perfect.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
