Dwight K. Schrute is without a doubt one of the more eccentric characters on The Office. He’s pretty out there, even for being the strange combination of paper salesman and beet farmer that he is. Nevertheless, he is full of confidence and makes some of the show’s most profound statements. If you have a New Year’s resolution to be a little more confident in yourself, perhaps you could take some pointers from Dwight.
1. On avoiding stupid decisions:
“Whenever I’m about to do something, I think, ‘Would an idiot do that?’ And if they would, I do not do that thing.”
2. On being extremely self-confident:
“I am better than you have ever been or ever will be.”
3. On not letting life get you down:
“Fortunately, my feelings regenerate at twice the speed of a normal man’s.”
4. On knowing that your time is precious:
“You couldn’t handle my undivided attention.”
5. On keeping it real, and clearly stating your needs:
“All you need is love. False. The four basic human necessities are air, water, food, and shelter.”
6. On knowing who you truly are:
“How would I describe myself? Three words: hardworking, alpha male, jackhammer, merciless, insatiable.”
7. On facing life’s obstacles:
“I am ready to face any challenge that might be foolish enough to face me.”
8. On being in control:
“Through concentration, I can raise and lower my cholesterol at will.”
9. On managing your stress levels:
“Nothing stresses me out. Except having to seek the approval of my inferiors.”
10. On being humble:
“No, don’t call me a hero. Do you know who the real heroes are? The guys who wake up every morning and go into their normal jobs, and get a distress call from the Commissioner and take off their glasses and change into capes and fly around fighting crime. Those are the real heroes.”
