Now that October is in full swing, we can all finally start discussing Halloween without getting our holiday cheer depleted by those who would claim "it's too early" or other such nonsense. October really does have everything going for it -- the scary movies, the candy, the sweaters, and coffee. But most importantly, getting to dress up on Halloween night.

However, as college students and enthusiastic school teachers know, buying costumes can get a little pricy, which is why I have compiled here 10 do-it-yourself costumes for college kids and anyone else not looking to break the bank on this year's Halloween costume.

1. Ninja/ Spy/Burglar

This one is super easy. All you have to do is dress entirely in black and silently sneak around any parties you go to-- which maybe you would have done anyway!

2. Boo from "Monsters Inc."

Throw your hair in pigtails and finding an oversized shirt wouldn't be too much of a challenge. Guys and girls alike could easily wear their favorite pajamas and carry around a stuffed animal to be a child.

3. Sports fan/Athlete

This one is so easy people might say it it's not a real costume, but they are just haters. You could either wear your favorite sports apparel, paint your face and be a mega fan, or throw on exercise clothing and be an athlete.

4. A condiment or crayon

Just dress in monochromatic colors and add the word "purple", "ketch up" or honey mustard" if you're feeling fancy and you're done!

5. Charlie Brown (or any member of the gang)

Charlie and the others are iconic characters which people will recognize instantly, and best of all they all have super simple wardrobes.

6. Zombie, college edition

You could easily smear dark makeup on your face and wear ragged clothing to go as a legit zombie, or you could make a small pun and just be an overworked college student -- just glue some old notecards to your shirt and forget to do your hair-- although maybe that's already happened.

7. Regina George (or any of the mean girls)

Like Charlie Brown, their looks are iconic and simple. You could be pink tracksuit Regina, Prom Regina, Regina with the boobs cuts out her shirt-- possibilities are endless. Also, major props if you can pull this look off as a guy.

8. Greek Goddess/God/Rey from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

Ever been to a toga party? Same thing. Just wind your sheets around you appropriately and add some jewelry or put your hair in knots in the case of Rey, and you're good to go.

9. Wear a Onesie

You can get onesies in endless themes, and though this might be an investment, it'll be super comfy and you can wear it all year long.

10. Lumberjack/ Brawny paper towel guy

Again easy, throw on some plaid and boots and carry around paper towels that'll probably come in handy anyway!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
