10 Disney Channel Original Movies You Should Revisit

As any 90s kid, the highlight of most of our friday nights was getting to watch the newest Disney Channel Original Movie. I think it is time that we take a trip down memory lane…

1. Brink!

This 1998 Disney film featured the super dreamy Andy Brinker, a member of the “Soul-Skaters.” Andy’s crew was all about skating for fun and not for money, that is until they come into conflict with a group of sponsored skaters. The two teams eventually battled it out in extreme skating competition, where Andy’s team wins it all!

2. Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century What could be better than a Disney movie set it space?!  After Zenon is grounded to Earth, she uncovers a villian’s plan to crash her space station. Luckily the quirky Zenon saves the day! I guess Proto Zoa was right, she is a “super nova girl.”

3. Smart House  Remember when that one teenager won a computerized house that ended up turning into a super over bearing cyber mom?

4. Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire In this movie, the Hansen children are willing to do anything to get their divorced mother out of those house, including unknowingly setting her up with a vampire. YIKES.

5. The Luck of the Irish  Kyle Johnson was just your ordinary junior high school student. He did well in school, played basketball, and hung out with his friends. That was until someone stole his lucky coin and he realized he was actually a leprechaun!

6. Double Teamed  This film tells the real-life story of Burge sisters. These twins had a love for basketball that eventually led them to play in the WNBA.

7. Cadet Kelly  This film featured the beloved Hilary Duff (aka LIZZIE MCGUIRE) as she plays the free-spirited Kelly Collins. Kelly ends up attending military school after her mother marries the Commandant. She must learn how to balance her care-free personality with the rigid structure of military school.

8. Gotta Kick It Up You do not have to be a dance fan to love this movie! Gotta Kick It Up follows the life of a teacher who aids a group of Hispanic girls as they figure out who they are while participating in a dance team.

9. The Cheetah Girls  Come on, we all still know the lyrics to all of the songs. This Disney favorite’s plot concerns four girls who attended a Manhattan performing arts school, and set out to win their school’s talent show!

10. High School Musical OUR ALL TIME FAVORITE! This is the movie where we first fell in love with Zac Efron, sang “We’re All In This Together,” and wished our real life could always be like a musical.

This is a very limited list, but I hope it was a refresher. Next time you have nothing to do and are completely out of things to watch on Netflix, revisit some of these old films. I promise you will not be disappointed!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
