Since the beginning of summer, I have fallen into a deep hole of conspiracy theories and Mandela Effects on YouTube.
Mandela Effects are when a large sum of people remember an event or an object as something different than it is. When this happens, it is said there has been a break in parallel universes. Recently, the big effect was with The Berenstain Bears. Many people remember it being the Berenstein Bears.
You may think I am exaggerating the enormity of some of these effects, but it is interesting to think about:
1. Magic Mirror on the wall
One of the very notable quotes from Snow White is when the Evil witch is speaking to her mirror saying, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" when actually she says, "Magic Mirror on the wall."
2. Life was like a box of chocolates
One of the most famous quotes in film history is from Forrest Gump when he is sitting on a park bench. Many believe he says, "Life is like a box of chocolates," but he really says, "Life was like a box of chocolates."
3. Mickey Mouse's clothes
Many remember Mickey Mouse to be wearing yellow shoes, red shorts with bug white buttons, and suspenders. But as it turns out, he never wore suspenders. So why do so many toy companies create toys where he is wearing suspenders?
4. Peanut butter
Growing up, I always thought there were two main brands of Peanut Butter: Skippy and Jiffy. Turns out I was wrong.
5. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
This one might be a stretch for some of you, but I remember the famous Dr. Seuss book, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. But it has always been, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
6. Star Wars
It has been requoted in films, sitcoms, on shirts, and many other forms of merchandise: Darth Vader's famous line, "Luke, I am your father." But if you go back and rewatch the scene, he said, "No, I am your father,"
7. C3P0
While we are on Star Wars, many people have reportedly remembered C3PO as being all gold, but he actually has a silver leg.
8. Febreze
Famous for their crazy commercials of blindfolding people and bringing them into unsanitary places, I personally remember the company as being specifically Febreeze, but all along it has been just Febreze.
9. Volkswagen
I always thought the Volkswagen Logo was a V and W combined and overlapping, similar to the New York Yankees logo, but alas, once again I am wrong, and there is a gap in the middle.
10. Skechers
Last is my favorite theory and one that drives me crazy. I feel very strongly about this effect in particular, because I believe with my entire soul that this shoe company has always been Sketchers, and suddenly it is Skechers. It just looks wrongs without the t.
These are just some of the many Mandela Effects out there. I encourage you to check more out and pay close attention to brands around you because one day, the universes could shift and life as we know it could be altered.
