All of us are guilty of at least one stereotypical pose for our senior pictures. I remember wanting to do certain poses because I’d seen them done before, and now looking back I realize that I’d seen them done before because pretty much everyone does them. If you want your senior pictures to be unique, I wouldn’t suggest doing the following poses in every picture that you have taken.

1. Looking Over The Shoulder

Whether just sitting and showing off your good side, or walking away from the photographer and shooting back a sassy look, this tends to be a very popular pose.

2. Laying On Your Stomach

Laying on your stomach with your feet magically appearing above your head (unless it’s a side shot) is typical as well. This is also done in the grass very often, which can be kind of itchy. No matter the state of comfort, though, the stomach pose is a cute tradition.

3. In Front Of A Door

Doors come in so many different shapes, designs, and colors. What’s not to like about them? Posing in front of an old door makes your senior picture unique because there are so many doors out there.

4. In Front Of Brick

Whether a fake backdrop in the studio or a beautiful building outside, a nice red brick will do wonders as a background.

5. With A Tree

Peek - A- Boo! There are many ways to pose with a tree, one of them being popping out from behind it and playing peek-a-boo with the photographer. While this may be the most popular, you can also stand anywhere around it, sit in it, and hang from a branch. The main thing to remember is to have fun with the pictures that you take.

6. With Anything Else In Nature

Literally anything in nature can be used in a senior picture. Smelling a flower, standing on a beach with water in the background, and using the blue sky to your advantage are just a few of the possibilities out there.

7. On Stairs Or A Bench

Often times, a bench or stairs are used in pictures, but not just any. They are usually a black metal or a well kept wooden frame. We’re not talking about any old staircase either, most of the time they’re the cement stairs in front of a big water fountain, or on the side of an old building for a more elegant look.

8. In Your Senior Shirt

If you have a senior shirt it is probably going to end up in at least one of your pictures. This is to show off your graduation year, or the names of the people that you graduate with.

9. Sporting Your Sports Or Extracurricular Gear

We’ve all seen the picture of the football or basketball player holding the sport ball in front of him with one hand, just looking cool. If you were in multiple sports the jersey or t-shirt from each will probably be laying all around you in a circle. Were you in band? You can bet that you’ll be holding your instrument in the right position in more than one picture. You’ll probably even have a band shirt on with it!

10. Showing Off Your Graduation Year

This can be done in many ways, but the two most popular are having wooden blocks of the numbers of your class year, or holding out the last two numbers with your fingers.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
