So you have taken your spring semester finals, submitted your group projects and left the library for the last time. Summer is here and all your friends from college are figuring out what they are going to do with almost 4 months of complete freedom. These are the 10 college students you'll find during the summer months away from the dorms.
1. Workaholic
This student is the one who took the opportunity of free time and turned it into a great addition for their resume. They probably spent a long time looking for something paid and ended up with office volunteer work covered by the word "internship" which makes it sound like this 9 am to 5pm, 5 day a week time-sucker is worth their while. For those lucky enough to have a paid internship, they hit the jackpot and should be respected on another level by the rest of their peers.
2. Average Joe
Your local home-from-college Average Joe. This is where you find your camp counselors, baristas, lifeguards, babysitters, wait staff and cashiers. These students work long, random shifts for minimum wage in a grueling environment which leaves them feeling dead inside at the end of the day. For those making over minimum wage or collecting additional tips, they have it a bit better even though more money usually requires more work.
3. Couch Potato
The classic stay-at-home Couch Potato of the college student group. This one tends not to leave their blanket burrito in bed unless they must refill on Cheetos or go to the bathroom. The Couch Potato spends their summer binge-watching Netflix and watching cute animal videos on Youtube. Little movement or laundry is required with this use of time. The Couch Potato may be convinced to come on a late-night run to McDonald's or walk around the block to catch a Pokemon, but other than that, this is the most sedentary of the college students wasting away during the summer.
4. Study Bug
For some, the only option to keep up was to take summer classes but for others, the push to graduate early or get classes out of the way makes taking classes online or on a local university campus a great way to spend the summer. Some students even opt to stay on campus and take a summer class while simultaneously having a job. This can be incredibly time consuming depending on the class and the intensity but serves to have many benefits in the long run. These students are not usually seen much during the week but party hard on the weekends and make sure their SnapStory shows proof of just how hard.
5. Foodie
Summer is a great time to experiment with restaurants, bars and cafes. The college Foodie will go to great lengths to try everything from brunch to Korean BBQ. These students are usually found at hotspots around town, wine tastings and weddings, sampling all the food and alcohol available. This student provides many photos of what it is they are consuming whether it be an artsy Instagram photo or an entire Facebook album dedicated to their insanely mouth-watering eats.
6. Hophead
Summer allows the Hopheads to do everything they were doing in the winter, but outdoors. Your summer Hopheads like to gather, usually in parks or someone's outdoor glass table in the backyard and smoke, drink and share stories about nothing. They will post videos of them shotgunning anything and everything all day and all night. Their summer is basically one long Beer Olympics with a few of their HopHead friends. These students can be found in 7-Eleven, the local 24-hour diner and McDonald's at all hours of the night. These are usually the hooligans that the neighborhood can't wait for them to leave and maybe one day get their lives together.
7. Globetrotter
This college student is one of most lucky of the people you know from school. They somehow go on vacation after vacation and spend little to no time at all back in their actual home. The Globetrotter makes us all very jealous, exploring new places that are much more interesting than your hometown. Globetrotter's social medias during the summer are swarmed with bright photos of cool views, buildings, food and cool new people. Whether they're jumping hostels or staying with family in another country, the Globetrotter is spending the summer having the time of their life.
8. Concertgoer
Your Concertgoer student has an affinity for all things loud, bright and turnt. This college student can be seen going to Firefly, Camp Bisco, EDC, Governor's Ball and everything in between. They love a good time and are experts at sneaking things past security to have an even better time. The Concertgoer has an outfit for every genre of music and probably has a pretty good shuffle routine by now.
9. Sunsoaker
This is the tannest of your summer college students. Your Sunsoaker loves the water, whether it be laying on the beach all day, cliff diving off a nearby mountain, dipping in a pool or spending a day on a boat. Your Sunsoaker has a wide collection of bathing suits and probably has some amazing photos of them laying out and about. The Sunsoaker usually has a drink or five while they are catching the rays and their tan lines are something to be desired by the rest of us.
10. Volunteer
This student either is really committed to the global community or needs hours for some sort of program/probation. Your Volunteers can be found rescuing baby animals, helping Habitat for Humanity or leading efforts for conservation of the environment. This is one of the more productive things a college student can partake in during the summer although they may spend long hours in another country teaching children or creating jobs.
Though these can overlap, the one thing most college students have in common is the aching desire to go back to school and see all the friends they were separated from for the long months of summer.
Which one are you?
