10 Things College Kids Hate Hearing Over Christmas Break

Everyone loves going home for Christmas break and seeing their family. However, we all also kind of hate it. We are bombarded with constant questions, many of which we can't answer. I'm usually lucky and don't hear to many of them but this is only my second Christmas break. As for the rest of you that possibly hear things like this every year, I'm sorry. Hang in there. Christmas break will be over before you know it. Hopefully sharing this with your family will cut back on the questions this year.

1) Have you gained weight?

Don't get me wrong, the answer is probably yes. However, that doesn't mean we need people pointing it out. Gaining weight is unfortunately part of getting older. We're also broke which means we don't eat "healthy" food very often.

2) Do you have a boyfriend?

No. Sorry to disappoint. I don't exactly have time for that right now. Whatever your answer may be to this question, it's never good enough. The failure of answering correctly will lead to this next question.

3) When will you have a boyfriend?

Once again, you probably don't have the right answer to this question. I know I never do. Let's face it, this isn't something we can predict. Relationships come and go and it will happen when it happens.

4) How's school going?

Fine. It's all going fine. Actually that is a major lie and they know it. Obviously you aren't going to tell them the truth but lying takes a lot of effort. That's why we really hate this question.

5) What are you even going to do with that degree?

I don't personally hear this a lot considering I am a psychology major but I know that this can be very annoying. My art major friends probably hear this the most. On their behalf, I'd like if this question was never asked again.

6) Are you sure that is the right choice for your future?

I actually heard something like this recently regarding me taking the semester off from school for the Disney College Program. I can promise it is. I'm pretty sure no one would purposely do something that was bad for their future.

7) How many parties did you go to?

First off, why does this matter? Second off, I'm going to tell you none, no matter what the real answer is. Let's face it, you probably don't actually want the answer to this question. Remember that you were young once too.

8) Do you consider that passing?

I am fully aware my grades aren't ideal this semester, but don't rub it in my face. Try encouraging us. It could end up making a huge difference.

9) Why did you join a sorority?

You don't want the answer because I could go on and on for hours about this. I love my sisters more than anything. Unfortunately this question might lead to another one along the lines of, "How do you say your sorority name?"

10) Are you taking care of yourself?

I'm broke. I'm busy. I'm stressed. However, I'm totally going to tell you that I am. I'm as healthy as can be. Just ignore me coughing in the corner.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
