Some clichés and expressions are over-said and become trite in their meaning.
"Love is blind." Whether we agree or not, it's too meaningless now..or it means something different to everyone.
"The grass is greener on the other side." While this cliché may be true, what does it do for you? Does it make you try any harder to be proud of your own grass— to not be jealous of someone else?
"If it's meant to be, it will be." Um, why not actually grabbing life by the horns and making things happen for yourself? Don't rely on fate— she doesn't always have your best interest in mind.
So many expressions out there don't do squat for us, but others? They actually do prevail.
Some clichés and expressions should definitely be taught, as they truly do make a difference in our lives and express their importance in the simplest, shortest and sweetest of ways.
Those clichés are the following.
1. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink."
One of the biggest life lessons out there is to stop thinking you have the power to change somebody. You can pour all your love and your efforts into somebody you care about, but at the end of the day, that person needs to make their own decisions and needs to see what is right for them themselves.
2. "The darkest hour is right before the dawn."
This life hands us cards that make us want to quit the game altogether at times, but it's in that moment when you find the strength within yourself to keep going, that all the decks come together. And you realize you are so much stronger than you think— that there is hope and faith and light ahead.
3. "It's never too late."
Don't let the excuse of "it's too late" stop you. As long as you have breath in your lungs, and a beating heart, you got this! Change, rise, push forward— you have so much out there. Seize!
4. "The blind are leading the blind."
For real though. Sometimes, you look at groups of people and you realize their leader is just as much full of arrogance as the rest.
5. "Don't bite the hand that feeds you."
Never take for granted what breeds goodness in your life. Too many of us suffer from such a thing and we lose some of the most important people in our lives.
6. "All that glitters isn't gold."
Some people use superficial masks and sparkly words to lure you in. But pretty words and faces don't always mean a heart of gold. Be careful.
7. "A picture paints a thousand words."
Uh, just too true. Don't believe me? Look back through your favorite childhood photos. They'll evoke something guaranteed.
8. "Chin up or the tiara slips."
Never let anyone make you lose your royal self-empowerment. They're not worth it. You are.
9. "You can do this."
Now, I know this sounds so nominal and so overused. But, honestly, you can. You can do anything that you work hard for, earn and deserve. So put the effort in, don't stop believing and chase your aspirations until they're all out of breath.
10. "Rome wasn't built in a day."
Some of the best things in this life take a little work and a little time. Relationships, a home-cooked meal, a barricade of pillows before bed or even your work-out at the gym.
