Are they trying to get a picture of that groundhog over there? Yup.

Every campus has their famous and most favorite things to see. Here are some of Marist's!

1. Geese

On almost every large patch of grass or snow, there’s a flock of geese. Crossing the sidewalks or chasing after each other, the geese are everywhere, all the time, and every day. You can count on seeing at least one group every day walking to class. But be careful--they’re not too friendly.

2. Occasional snow, even if it was 72 degrees the previous day

It was a tease. The one day when everyone pulls out their best spring clothes. Then, two days later and there’s a snowstorm.

3. People sunbathing on the Marist beach

It doesn’t matter if you have a paper to write or a test to study for, you can do it under the sun on the Marist beach! If it’s greater than 65 degrees outside and the sun’s high in the sky, the beach is the place to be. There’s frisbee, baseball, sunbathing, and all your favorite friends outside socializing and procrastinating!

4. Friendly squirrels

As soon as it gets a little warmer out, the squirrels get a bit friendlier and dare to venture out to the trees. They’ll come pretty close to you, especially if you have some nuts in your hand!

5. Scared groundhogs

Other than the Marist Fox, Marist is famous for their groundhogs; they’re the cutest little furry lumps! They’re pretty afraid of the students though, especially if we try to take pictures with them.

6. Worms sprawled over the sidewalks after a day of rain

It's gross, I know. But it happens. Once it’s over 60 degrees and the April showers hydrate the campus, the worms come out and cover the sidewalks. It’s hard not to miss them while walking to class! They’re everywhere!

7. The most unforgettable sunsets

It's typical Marist. You’ll see at least three beautiful, picture-worthy sunsets every week! And everyone will stop what they’re doing just to take a picture! The best views are from the library too.

8. Dock pictures

With warmer weather, cuter outfits, and the sun shining, the modeling pics come out too. The best places to strike a pose around Marist is the dock by the river! It’s the perfect setting to make it look “casual."

9. Puppy Snapchats

Finally, once the sun comes out, so do the puppies! Then everyone has to put on the story how they saw a puppy or, you know, it didn’t happen.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
