10 Cincinnati Bands You
Need To Check Out Now.
Okay. So let's talk about the local scene here in Cincinnati. After all the local scene is always where it's at. You're bound to find some of the most hard working and dedicated musicians and bands playing in a friend's basement or at your local bar. Being in the tristate area, we definitely have not just a little bit of everything but quite a lot of everything. There're so many bars and venues it's a little hard to wrap your mind around and decide where you'll end up tonight, and a difficult decision it is when there is always so many good shows happening on the weekend and just throughout the week for that matter. Cincinnati has always been known for its rock n' roll and its bluegrass for being so close to Kentucky, but there's a lot more to it than just that. With a huge pop punk scene and an equally as large metal core scene and following them up are the EDM and Hip Hop scenes. Cincinnati is a city with soul and love and we show it through music. So today we're not gonna focus on just any one genre but go into a few of each that you should definitely go check out whether it be on their "Bandcamp", "Reverberation", or if you decide to just go and catch a show!
1. "The Rumpkee Mountain Boys"
From the north side of the Ohio River was born the "The Rumpkee Mountain Boys"(Rumpkee mountain is actually the nickname given to the local landfill). They're a trash grass band with their roots in bluegrass and jam. They attract a lot of the hippie crowd with their foot stomping heel spinning jams that just make you wanna two-step it out. They're a four piece consisting of banjo, mandolin, guitar, and cello. They can be found touring the country or playing in your friends back yard. Their most popular song being "Hucks Song".
2. "Ocean Grid"
"Ocean Grid" is a six piece metalcore band fronting two vocalists. With high energy members tearing up the stage, they put on quite a show. Their roots are in the early 21st-century metal core with a twist of deathcore and catchy clean vocal melodies.
3."Chasing Aislin"
A five piece out of Cincinnati, they aim to break away from the mold industrial music has taken the pop punk, metalcore scene. With a very similar sound to "A Day To Remember", the band mixes hardcore down beats with pop punk melodies and weird jazzy groove downs.
4."This Year Is A Ghost"
They're a six-piece pop punk band who love just getting together and jamming out. With a heavy influence from early 21st-century pop punk and young edgy spirits, they can tear a venue up.
5."Don't Wait Up"
With a heavy alternative indie punk rock sound, "Don't Wait Up" is constantly hitting the road and looking for new friends and places to rock out.
6."Loud Mouth"
A five piece punk band that I would dare to say might be one of the best blends of the pop punk sound with a more grungy feeling instrumentals and poppy melodies.
7."Rock Stead"
A four piece reggae jam band, these guys put on an awesome show and always attract a super awesome crowd of people. With what is known as the "white boy reggae" sound, Rockstead is always down to play a house show and party it down with you and your friends for the night while supplying monster reggae jams.
8."Elementree Livity Project"
Another reggae jam band out of Cincinnati is the "Elementree Livity Project". With the recent releasing of their first EP "You're Not Ready", you'll most likely catch them playing music festival stages during the summer, and rocking the bars the rest of the year.
9. "The Tillers"
With their roots heavy in American blues and bluegrass folk, "The Tillers" have a unique sound blending it with jazz and rock. Generally picking away on banjos, stand-up bass, and guitar they have a real foot stomping sound that we're known for around here.
10. "Sycamore"
A one man project, Sycamore talk about growing up in the millennial generation with a pop punk indie rock sound. Writing and producing everything one friend. Sycamore is the definition of DIY and what one person can do. Checking out his stuff is a must.
