Recently, I saw this article that said “The Basic Christmas List for Young Adult Women.” Now, I am definitely not a tom-boy, but I am just as much not a “girly-girl” either. I am a mix of both. I do agree with some of the items on this list, like fuzzy socks and big sweaters, because those are must-have Christmas attire. However, I do not want someone buying me makeup or 5 for $25 underwear and bras. Who is buying this stuff, my mom? She does not know what makeup from Sephora I do not have and I definitely do not want her exploring Victoria’s Secret for new panties. If my best friends are buying me this stuff, that’s fine but shouldn’t I be there when they are picking it out? I personally do not wear jewelry, unless it is special and means something. I do not drink coffee or eat sugar (lame, I know) and trust me, my closet is already FULL of College sports wear. I do not take baths, so a bath bomb would not be for me. Who enjoys sitting in their own dirty water? Not me. So I guess this list is different for everyone, depending on who is writing it. However, my basic Christmas list would go a little something like this…
1. Blankets
This is similar to the sweaters and fuzzy socks, but what is better than a comfy blanket? Nothing. When you are sitting by the TV watching the Yule Log and looking at your Christmas tree, I want to be covered in a fuzzy blanket. Extra points for the fluffier it is. Enough said.
2. Food
You are telling me that FOOD was not on that list? Just picture a box full of your favorite food, whether it be chocolate or an avocado. You could literally get a basket of avocados for Christmas (my friend Madison’s dream come true).
3. Slippers
Although I love fuzzy socks, slippers are also important. It is snowing for the first time and you want to go outside and look, but you only have your socks on. You need to put on your slippers so the bottoms of your socks do not get damp from the beautiful snowflakes.
4. Gift Cards
You cannot go wrong with this one. Although it is not the most personal and thoughtful gift, it is the most useful. I would love to get a Dunkin Donuts or iTunes gift card from someone who has no idea what to get me. Why? I do not need to return it because I can actually put it to good use! This is something you would never re-gift.
5. A Trip Somewhere
Now on the more thoughtful side, I think that a planned trip to somewhere special is a true Christmas present. You could plan a trip to NYC, or even a nice dinner in another town. You could even do something small like a trip to Dave and Busters or a drive-in movie theatre. Think outside of the present box people!
6. A Good Book
I am an avid reader, so this one may just be for me. But I know that someone who goes to a bookstore, actually reads the full description of the book, and picks one that somehow relates to your life or is something you would be touched by, that is a keeper. Also, it is like an obligation to read during Christmastime by a fire.
7. A Movie I Love
You have a movie that you love and whenever it is on TV you freak out. A good example of this is when ABC family (no, I refuse to call it Freeform) does Harry Potter weekend. Wouldn’t it be nice to watch Harry Potter whenever you want. Do not worry because Harry Potter weekend will still be special because they add scenes when it is on TV (yes, this is actually true. Look out for them).
8. Headphones Or Beats
I listen to music all the time- on my way to class, before bed, right when I wake up in the morning and so on. I also listen to my music really loudly, so my headphones tend to stop working because I have blown them out. However, this is not really a problem with Beats, as far as I know (I could be wrong on that). So, I would be happy with either an extra pair of iTunes headphones or a pair of Beats. (Hint, hint)
9. Something Homemade Like A Scrapbook Or Picture Frame
This would be extra thoughtful. I remember in high school, before all of my friends had jobs, where we would always give each other scrapbooks as presents. We would not only have fun giving them, but have fun making them. Then, whenever you are having a bad day and need a pick me up, you can just look through them and remember all of the good times you had- good times you may have otherwise forgotten about.
10. Bath & Body Works
Lastly, I guess this is similar to the bath bomb, but I love it when people tell me I smell good. I always take care of my personal hygiene. During the winter time, dry skin is inevitable. So, a nice smelling lotion, a good perfume and anything else would be a dream.
