10 Christmas Movies To Watch While Procrastinating

It's that time of year again. College students everywhere are struggling through finals with nothing but the promise of winter break to get them through it all. So, if you are looking for an excuse to put off responsibility for just a little bit longer, here are ten Christmas movies to put the sparkle back in your eyes.

1. "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

Not quite ready to let go of fall? "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is the perfect holiday transition movie. Spanning from Halloween to Christmas with just the right amount of spooky and jolly, this is the perfect movie to start your procrastination session.

2. "Elf."

Remember kids, Will Ferrell movies are never inappropriate. "Elf" is the defining Christmas movie of the 2000s. Both hilarious, and incredibly quotable, it's not Christmas until Will Ferrell screams "SANTA!"

3. "Die Hard."

When you need a little gunfire and some explosions to accompany the sound of "Jingle Bells," it's time to watch "Die Hard." Hot cocoa, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and Bruce Willis shooting terrorists make for some serious Christmas spirit.

4. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."

"National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" always reminds us that even when our Christmas is stressful and our families are crazy, it could be worse. Clark Griswold understands. He struggles with Christmas lights the way we struggle with finals.

5. "Home Alone."

Merry Christmas ya filthy animals. This action-packed comedy became every parent's nightmare and every kid's daydream. Kevin McCallister will forever hold a place in our hearts.

6. "It’s a Wonderful Life."

Sometimes finals make it hard to remember that it is truly a wonderful life. So, when things get a little too tough, take some time to remember your priorities. Sit back and spend a couple of hours remembering how #blessed you are.

7. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Whether you pick the Jim Carrey reboot or the original Dr. Seuss classic, there is no way to go wrong with this. It's a reminder to the Grinch in all of us that 'tis the season for our hearts to grow three sizes.

8. "The Santa Clause."

The ultimate lesson in karma, and a testament to the undying Christmas spirit.

9. "Love Actually."

The rom-com of the season, "Love Actually" intertwines various romances around happening during holiday season to leave you wrapped up in your emotions. It even has the perfect soundtrack to de-stress with.

10. "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

The true meaning of Christmas cannot be expressed better than by the lovable characters of Charlie Brown. This movie is perfect for your nostalgic moments, and to escape back to childhood for a little while.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead.
