The holiday season has begun and along with the excitement of seeing family and decorating the tree comes the panic of finding the perfect gift for everyone close to you. You may realize you have spent more over the past few months than you probably should’ve and the budget for gifts is on the lower end. Do not fear. There are so many great gifts out there for under ten dollars. Below I will share my top ten favorites which have been very useful for my shopping purposes over the last few years!

1. Socks

It may sound simple, but trust me, everyone needs and loves them, especially when they are Christmas related. Here are two different options from American Eagle at $8.95 per pair.

2. Hot Chocolate

What speaks to the holiday season more than a cup of peppermint hot cocoa by the fire? This tin is only $5 from Walmart!

3. Face Masks

The holidays are a time to take a break from the chaos of school and work. Relax and renew with an eye mask like this one for $5 at Sephora.

4. Picture Frame

One easy way to make a moment last forever is a picture frame. Print your favorite picture of you and your friend or family member and show your appreciation for only a few bucks.

5. Nail Polish

Another easy and simple gift which can go so far. A small bottle of nail polish can last for months and with a bright red color, can really help to get in the holiday spirit.

6. Bath Bomb

A fun idea for women of all ages. They are available at places throughout a local mall. A very easy stocking stuffer at only $7.95!

7. Candle

At Yankee Candle, select scents are only $5 for a small classic jar candle. Who wouldn’t want one?

8. Chocolates

Toffee, caramels, truffles and more. It does not get much better than that.

9. Coffee Mug

Whether it’s holiday-themed or not, this is a practical gift which can last forever. Fill it with hot chocolate and you're set for a day full of Hallmark Christmas movies.

10. Gift Card

Finally, the easiest of all gifts, a gift card. Because after all, the person receiving the gift knows what he or she wants best anyway.

Hopefully, these ideas inspire you to get ahead on your Christmas shopping. The countdown until the holidays is long underway and it's best to get a head start and not leave all your shopping until the week before. Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is only days away. Take advantage of sales, coupons, and discounts especially this time of year. After all, it's the thought that truly counts! Best wishes to all for a very Merry Christmas!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
