Of the millions of books in the world, there is a surprising amount that remain untouched. Books enlighten the soul and inhibit a whole world of imagination to be explored. In light of this realm of imagination, here are 10 books that everyone should read in their lifetime.
1. The "Harry Potter" Series
Although this is technically 7 books, it deserves a spot on the list. These books dive you deep into an entire world of fantasy and excitement, while simultaneously hooking you in so that you can't put them down. This series features a highly addictive, and highly exciting story to follow.
2. "The Great Gatsby"
There's nothing bad I can say about this book. From deep character insight to sudden twists, this book will have you rereading it several times just to see what you might've missed.
3. "The Outsiders"
This book, being my favorite, is one that I'm biased about. Delving into the lives of kids in the 1960's, this book is highly surprising. This novel brings light to social differences and culture in the lives of kids in the time period.
4. "A Clockwork Orange"
Although this book is hard to follow in the beginning, the story is worth the confusion. The novel shows insight to crime and psychological experiments, while simultaneously engulfing the reader in the life of the main character.
5. "Great Expectations"
This novel, written in older English, is a long and slow-progressing read, however, despite the slowness of the storyline, the read is a classic with interesting concepts and ideas.
6. "To Kill A Mockingbird"
This novel, featuring the point of view of a young girl, portrays the racism that was present in the south in the 1930s. The story includes attention-grabbing drama and a close-to-home sense of the south.
7. "Into the Wild"
Another one of my top books, this novel takes the reader deep into the thoughts of a real-life young man. The novel depicts his thoughts and actions as he explores the wilderness in a search for himself. The book is a highly recommended read.
8. "Lord Of The Flies"
This novel challenges human nature as a group of boys is left stranded on an island. The boys begin to lose all sense of self-control, and the only thing keeping them alive is raw instinct. This novel challenges the value of human nature and shows how people can change under certain circumstances.
9. "The Help"
This novel challenges the reader on racial equality, justice, and overall gratitude. The book is highly recommended for readers wanting an insightful and humorous novel that challenges what women believe in the early 1960s.
10. "The Crucible"
Although this is technically a play, this literary work deserves a spot next to the greats. This work tells the tale of the Salem witch trials. The play is a renowned literary work that challenges the reader to decipher what's right and wrong.
