If you’re anything like me, you LOVE book. Now, I’m an English major, so books are kind of my thing. Reading is one of my favorite things to do, aside from binge watching That 70’s Show on Netflix. Here’s a list of great books for book lovers.
1. The entire Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling is an amazing writer. She keeps you interested. Of course, if you’ve seen the movies, you already know what happens, but the books have so much detail. The Deathday party is one of my favorite chapters. If you have time, start reading the books. They get longer as you go on, but I promise, it’s worth it.
2. The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
This one follows the movie pretty well, but the entire book is in the form of letters. You can really feel Charlie’s emotion through his letters. I cried the entire time I was reading it. 10/10 would read again.
3. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Okay, drop your opinion from the movie. I heard it was good, but the book was AMAZING. You can kind of tell how it’s going to end, but that won’t stop you from crying your eyes out.
4. The entire Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
When I picked up the first book, I didn’t put it down until I was done reading it. I read the entire first book in six hours. The other two were just as amazing. Suzanne Collins did an amazing job showing what it could be like living in the kind of society like Katniss does.
5. Lord of the Flies by William Golding
I read this book in my junior English class. It was a bit slow and I had trouble following it for a few chapters, but by the end, I loved it. It talks a lot about mob mentality, and how people can turn against each other.
6. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
No, this book isn’t about killing an actual mockingbird. It’s about a little girl and her family. It sheds like on racism in the 1920’s and how that racism really affects peoples lives. You probably read it in high school, but give it another read.
7. The Fault In Our Stars By John Green
John Green is one of my favorite authors. His books really know how to pull at the heartstrings. I cry every time I read this book.
8. An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
Another John Green book, but oh well. This book has so many amazing quotes. One of my favorites is, “And the moral of the story is that you don’t remember what happened. What you remember becomes what happened.” (page 208). There are so many more amazing quotes that are so relatable.
9. The Outsiders S.E. Hinton
I’m reading this again next semester for my class about young adult literature, but this book doesn’t even need an explanation as to why it’s so amazing. If you haven’t read it, go read it right now. “Stay golden, Ponyboy.”
10. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
This book is a little unusual, mainly because of one of the main characters, who everyone calls stargirl. She’s a free spirit and goes where the win takes her. It’s just so good. It’s also really short and you can read it in one sitting.
