10 Books on My Reading List for 2017

1.Hidden Figuresby Margot Lee Shetterly

Recently went and saw the movie and thought it was amazing! Would go and see it again easily, so now I am eager to read the book.

2. Black Chalk by Christopher J. Yates

This book is a psychological thriller about 6 best friends that start something their first year at Oxford, then 14 years later come back together to finish what they started. When I saw this book at Barnes and Noble and read just the first sentence on what it was about, I was instantly intrigued to read it.

3. You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

Yes this is a self-help book, but a friend of mine read this and recommended it. From what I saw it had some really awesome quotes and tips in it.

4. The Champion’s Mind by Dr. Jim Afremow

I learned about this book from a friend of mine on the Shocker Bowling team and it looks like and amazing read. I just recently started reading it and so far it is pretty good. I would recommend it to anyone.

5. The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer

This book is by Stephenie Meyer who wrote the Twilight Series and The Host. I’m excited to see what she is up to now with this book.

6.Talking As fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

A book by Lauren Graham will always make my reading list. I love Gilmore Girls, especially Lorelai. In Graham’s book she talks about Gilmore Girls so I am excited to see what she has to say.

7. A Dog’s Purpose by W. Bruce Cameron

I have seen the previews for the movie adaption of this book and they look pretty good. My rule is to not read the book until after I see the movie so I am not disappointed when I see the movie if they didn’t do the greatest job at adapting the book.

8. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

I have yet to see this movie, waiting for it to come out on DVD. However, the previews looked amazing and I love books that are psychological thrillers, making it a must have on my reading list.

9. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

I read To Kill a Mockingbird in school and loved it, one of the few books in school that I actually enjoyed reading. When I saw that this book had come out I was definitely intrigued to find out what the future had in store for the characters from To Kill a Mockingbird.

10. My Fight Your Fight by Ronda Rousey

Ok, I have already read this book, but I had to add it to my list because of how great it was. I do not watch UFC fighting, but this book was another recommendation from my friend on the Shocker Bowling team. It’s a great read and definitely had some good tips and stories in it for any athlete.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
