The best time of year is back! The colors, the scents, and the cold, autumn comes with so many fun activities and holidays. As fun as the annual football games, fire pits, and pumpkin picking is, you might be looking for some new activities to (pumpkin) spice up your autumn. Here's a list of great autumn books to cozy up with!

1. Walden: or, Life in the Woods

Walden follows Henry David Thoreau's adventurous 2+ years living in a cabin in the woods of Concord, Massachusetts. It's the perfect book to cozy up with under a colorful tree and reflect upon the solitude of nature and how it relates to our lives.

2. Autumnal Tints

Henry David Thoreau perfectly captures the colors, scents and feelings of fall in Autumnal Tints. The book celebrates the season, not as the season of death but full of maturity and beauty. This book will get you excited for those gorgeous oranges, reds, yellows, browns and purples of the upcoming season.

3. Frankenstein; Or, The Modern Prometheus

Mary Shelley's gothic novel of Man and His Monster, Frankenstein tells the original story of the big green monster we've all come to recognize. While pop culture had its hand in creating our image of the monster, this tale gives him a depth and humanity usually unassociated with our perception.

4. Dracula

Another familiar Halloween character, Dracula tells the tale of the vampire's attempt to spread his undead curse to England and the group of intellects that try to stop him. Filled with bloodsucking, creepy castles, and the original Count himself, Dracula is the perfect tale to get in the spooky mood this fall.

5. The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe

A persistant raven, a thumping heart beneath the floorboards, a black cat. Who else besides Poe would create the perfect narratives and poems that completely encompass the spookiness of fall? For the "I Have No Time To Read Leisurely" reader, these poems and short stories are the perfect time commitment.

6. Legend of Sleepy Hollow

The classic American horror Halloween story, Legend of Sleepy Hollow tells of infamously supernatural Sleepy Hollow village in post-Revolutionary New York state. One of the most well-known spooky stories, this tale of Ichabod Crane will leave you in the spookiest of moods this Halloween.

7. The Crucible

Based on the Salem witch trials of 1692, Arthur Miller's play The Crucible will have you questioning your friends, family and neighbors of their true intentions. Although no witches or magic actually makes it's way into this tale, the true horror of this story is how hysteria turned a bunch of grown-ass adults into witch-hunting murderers. Definitely spooky.

8. Thanksgiving: The True Story

We love the food, the family, and the football. But how did Thanksgiving really start, and evolve into what it is today? In Penny Colman's nonfiction book, she dissects the traditions, history and true meaning behind the holiday Americans hold so close to their hearts (and stomachs).

9. Friendsgiving: Celebrate your family of friends

The perfect cookbook for your Friendsgiving feast! Friends giving: Celebrate your family of friends, gives you everything you need to prepare the perfect low-key holiday for you and your friends. A must-read for college students who can't go home for the holiday, this book is guaranteed to make your time away from home and with your second family worth while.

10. Thanksgiving Night

A touching and hysterically written story of family, friends, relationships, and late '90s culture, Thanksgiving Night by Richard Bausch is the perfect fictional story to get you ready for turkey, stuffing, and your crazy quirky fam.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
