10 Binge-Worthy TV Shows

As we move closer and closer to the holiday season, this is the perfect time to watch tv shows you've heard family, friends, and coworkers talk about. And of course for consecutive hours on end. Get some good food beforehand and comfortable, yet unflattering clothing because you are going to be here a while. Please know not all of these shows are appropriate for tiny humans. Take this as a warning.

Community

Community begins with a disbarred lawyer who has to go back to community college and he meets a girl he wants to hook up with. He decides to tell her he is a Spanish teacher and has made a study group. To his surprise, she isn't the only one who shows up to the "study group." This study group quickly become good friends and have interesting adventures at the community college.

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is a favorite show of mine. It combines major, influential families all vying for the Iron Throne and being able to rule the seven kingdoms. It's a little bit of a period drama because it's set thousands of years ago but has a little bit of fantasy because it has dragons and people coming back from the dead. It has betrayal, incest, true love, power struggles, liars, honest people, Kings/queens, all intertwined in a deadly game where you either win or die. I wouldn't recommend you watch this show unless you're comfortable with violence and nudity.

New Girl

This show begins with awkward and upbeat, Jess who just realized her boyfriend is cheating on her. She then decides to move in with three single guys. Together with her best friend, Cece, Jess, and her roommates become close yet dysfunctional friends as they navigate their lives. Their adventures range from their love life to their careers to friendship.

The Office

Set at a paper company this show features the Dunder-Mifflin staff. Characters include, Jim who has a thing for the receptionist named, Pam. There's also Dwight who is an accomplished employee but lacks social skills and common sense.

Chuck

This show is about an average nerd named Chuck who does computer repair at a Buy More. His life changes when he accidentally downloads a super computer in his brain. Later, a beautiful CIA agent named Sarah Walker walks in his work. Together Chuck, Sarah, and an NSA agent, named Casey all team up to stop terrorist attacks, disable bombs, and capture terrorists.

Law and Order: SVU

Law and Order is a drama set in New York. SVU stands for Special Victims Unit. This elite squad takes on cases involving rape, sexual assault, incest, hate crimes, children being kidnapped, etc. I know at the beginning of each episode it says the episode is purely fictional but I have seen similarities between episodes and current events. Like the murder of Trayvon Martin or the Duggard family.

Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation is about the hilarious adventures of Leslie Knope, a mid level bureaucrat and her team as they strive to make the city of Pawnee a better place. Even though their projects seem simple, they always challenges. This may be do to selfish people, backstabbers, governmental red tape, and people looking for a reason to get offended. Pawnee is basically America in a nutshell which makes it even more hilarious.

Vikings

Viking Ragnar Lothbrok is a poor farmer who has become frustrated with the policies of Earl Haraldson, his local chieftain. Through the years, the two have power struggles. It's like Game of Throne but has far less nudity but it doesn't skip out on the violence.

Penny Dreadful

Many people are familiar with the characters, Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Grey. This show is a psychological thriller set in a a Victorian London and brings characters like that to life. It's a shame it only lasted for three seasons. These show has some scenes that are flat out terrifying and nudity. So be aware.

Supernatural

Supernatural is about Sam and Dean Winchester. They are brothers and best friends. As young children, they lost their mother to a demon, their father, blinded by his deep need for revenge, teaches the brothers how to track, hunt, and kill, supernatural beings. As adults, they go around the county hunting ghosts, demons, spirits, and other things that go bump in the night.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
