Being a young girl who described herself as a "tomboy," abhorred all things the color pink, and constantly attempted to play football at recess with the boys, even though I did not know a single rule of the game, I found myself interested in many activities that were gender stereotyped as "boy things."
One year for Christmas, when I was around the age of 7, my grandmother gifted me a PlayStation 2 against my mother's will. I mean, my mother had directly told her, "Do not buy my daughter a PlayStation 2 for Christmas." I am glad that my grandmother blatantly disobeyed her, because that night, my adoration for the most sold gaming console in history began.
I could never get over how much fun the PS2 was, and I owned and played so many different games for that console. I am still upset that gaming companies do not create games for the PS2 anymore, since Sony has evolved all the way up to a PS4 now, which, by the way, has only been sold a fraction of the amount of PS2 consoles that have been sold to this day.
So, let us reminisce:
1. "Star Wars Battlefront II"
If you didn't select "yes" when the game offered you Darth Vader or Yoda, you weren't playing it right.
2. "Road Trip"
I still listen to the band "Push Kings" because they recorded just about all of the music for this game.
3. "Ratchet & Clank"
Who else is super excited for the movie version of this game that is coming out in April?
4. "Kingdom Hearts"
Whenever I talked about this game with my friends, we all mistakenly called it "Kingdom of Hearts."
5. "American Idol"
How else would I know all of the words to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" by Whitney Houston?
6. "Crash Bandicoot"
This guy was everyone's favorite little orange creature.
7. "Super Monkey Ball Adventure"
The mini-games in this were the best for sleepovers!
8. "The Sims 2"
The split-screen free-play version of this game could entertain my friends and me for hours.
9. "The Simpsons Hit & Run"
I never fulfilled the story mode objectives in this game because I was always too busy trying to run people over.
10. "Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition"
Fire this baby up, select cruise mode, and go to town! No, really, go to the center of town and run into some traffic lights and trees. It's a lot of fun.
Obviously, these are only 10 examples out of an entire myriad of legendary PS2 video games that made childhood a lot more fun. I don't know about you, but now I'm going to go fire up my PS2!
