Being a history buff and history major I have interest in the actions of United States and especially those of our former presidents. To be honest, our former presidents have been pretty crappy. Some more than others, but a majority have been down right terrible. Whether they be scandalous like Clinton and Nixon, or incompetent like Carter or Hoover. But through it all there has been some good presidents along the way. Here are the best presidents that the United States has ever had based on the moral and political actions.
10. William McKinley
Even though he was assassinated only six months into his second term our 25th president managed to end the Spanish-American War and protect the American economy and industry.
9. James Knox Polk
The 11th president of the United States is considered to be one of the last good pre-civil war presidents. As he stopped the cession of Texas through the Mexican-American War, officially gained the Oregon Territory, and strengthened the American economy by building an independent treasury system.
8. Woodrow Wilson
President Wilson is known for his part during the Progressive Movement such as instating the 19th amendment to the Constitution gaining women's rights and helping end WWI.
7. James Madison
Known as the "Father of the Constitution," our fourth president was an important part of creating the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which has kept our country going for the last 240 years.
6. Thomas Jefferson
A "Founding Father," of the United States he is known for his push for separation of the colonies and Great Britain, an author of the Declaration of Independence, and being a slave holder thus his ranking at number six.
5. George Washington
Also a Founding Father our first president of the United States set a standard for all Presidents to follow, but like Jefferson he also was a slave holder thus his ranking at number five.
4. John Fitzgerald Kennedy (J.F.K.)
Other than being known for his looks J.F.K. in my books is one of the last greatest presidents we have had. He had a lot thrown at him during his presidency, and if he would have not been assassinated he would have most likely stopped the war in Vietnam before it really got started.
3. Theodore Roosevelt
The 26th president of United States better known as Teddy Roosevelt was a driving force in the Progressive Era. He gained fame as a Rough Rider during the Spanish-American War and stole our hearts with his conservation efforts.
2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (F.D.R.)
F.D.R. is known for his creation of the New Deal that lead the United States out of the Great Recession and on our way to becoming one of the most powerful nations in the world.
1. Abraham Lincoln
Good ole' "Honest Abe," definitely is the number one president of the United States. He helped keep our nation together during the Civil War, abolished slavery, put our government back together, and modernized the U.S. economy... during a war! He was a highly impressive man and there will be never another like him to serve the U.S.A.
