All right Tigers, we're back at it again! With the first week of classes down, I know my favorite part about the very little time I had off was deciding which of the amazing places around campus to eat at! Honestly, one of my favorite parts about coming to Baton Rouge from a small town was the exponential increase in food options! Now, I'll admit, Baton Rouge has so much more than these fabulous places to choose from, but these campus favorites are affordable, delicious, and just plain make me happy!
1.Your Mom's Restaurant and Bar
Believe it or not this is not a down home comfort food place complete with gravy-IT'S SO MUCH BETTER! Serving everything from killer chicken sandwiches, super salads, cheese fries, and not to mention their divinely inspired burgers. Not only do I consider these to be the best burgers in town, they have the most variety! They have burgers with eggs on top, mushrooms, pizza toppings, and even peanut butter and jelly! My favorite is the Original (how plain, I know) that has the most perfectly cooked burger with sourdough buns that are to die for! Easily 10/10 would recommend!
2. Louie's Café
Since 1941, this LSU favorite has been serving up the most intricate and delicious breakfasts you can find for 24 hours a day! Complete with waffles, pancakes, eggs and bacon, Louie's manages to turn breakfast into the most fabulous part of your day with items like "The Seafood Omelet"!
3. New York Bagel
Oh. My. Word. I could go on for days about how absolutely amazing this place is! Until recently, I believed everyone knew about this gem, and was completely surprised when I discovered people were missing the greatness of bagel sandwiches in their lives! New York Bagel has numerous amazing breakfast, lunch, and dinner bagel sandwiches. My personal favorite is The MET, one because it carries my initials and two because I cannot live without this sandwich in my life. Their chicken salad, as well as their Brooklyn Bomber are absolutely to die for!
4. Drunken Phish
If you're into authentic Asian, this is the place to be! Their rolls are a bit pricey, but their soups are just what the soul needs on a cold winter's day.
5. Red Zepplin
Take a right on Perkins and Viola! You'll find yourself at one of the cutest, hippest little pizza places I know! You can make your own pizza at an affordable price, now who wouldn't want that? Don't forget the spinach and artichoke dip though!!!!
6. Caliente
Forget the food, let's talk about margs! After a long week, there's nothing I want more than to kick back with my friends with a gorgeous and delicious margarita from this place in hand! Okay, the queso and pretty much everything on their menu is pretty off the chain too!!
7. The Chimes
"Established in 1983, The Chimes has been serving up Louisiana comfort food and quality beer for over thirty years!" An LSU traditional favorite, you can't say you've been to Baton Rouge without eating at this classic pit stop.
8. Plucker's
After a long night of NOT drinking, where do all my homie's love to go? Plucker's! Okay, in reality, I will order this anytime, any day, sitting by myself or with friends! The atmosphere is friendly and involved, but the food is next level. And when I say next level, I don't just mean in flavor but portions as well! I can order one set of boneless chicken wings and can guarantee to have meals for the next day!
9. City Pork
While this one is a little more pricey, and definitely more upscale, this is a BBQ spot that cannot be missed. Well, considering it's literally under a bridge I guess it can? Anyways, their cuts of meat and cheeses are so fresh and delicious, not to mention their homemade BBQ sauce that makes a grown woman cry!
10. Zippy's
Ya'll, this is what I ate for my 19th birthday and I had zero regrets! When my boyfriend comes to visit this is always a must have for him! There's something about creating your our burrito/quesadilla/taco that just makes you want to say "Hallelujah!"
I hope I've given you all some great places to try out for your next meal! Good luck this week and happy eating!
