The definition of a chick flick: a movie that appeals mainly to women.
We all have those three or four chick flicks that we watch over and over and over again. It doesn't matter if it is just you in your sweats, if it's 11 PM on a school night, or if you're having a massive old school sleepover with your best girlfriends, chick flicks are always going to have a special place in your heart. These specific chick flicks are movies that almost everyone can relate to in some way or another, and they can make you laugh and cry at the same time—trust me, I've done it, it's possible.
Oldies That Are Goodies
"Sleepless in Seattle"
Meg Ryan (Annie Reed) and Tom Hanks (Sam Baldwin) are the best duo when it comes to movies. This romantic movie starts off with Sam living in Seattle with his son, Jonah, a little while after his wife, and mother passed; whereas Annie is living across the country in Baltimore. This heartbreaking love story goes against all odds—not to mention technology difficulties—to bring these two together. This movie has made my heart jump, stop, and even skip a beat or two—and be warned, it is definitely a tear jerker too! Go check it out on Netflix!
"While You Were Sleeping"
I just recently watched this movie on Netflix—YES it's on NETFLIX—and I am a huge fan of Sandra Bullock, so I just had to watch it. It's such a cute movie where Lucy, played by Sandra Bullock, is absolutely in love with a guy (Peter Gallager) that comes through the train station every morning, but she never says more than "hi" to him. This movie goes illustrates that sometimes the person you think you're going to end up with isn't actually who you're supposed to be with. This movie can relate to the people who, like me, are too scared to talk to someone they are attracted to.
"You've Got Mail"
This is another movie that stars Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, and when I was watching this movie after Sleepless in Seattle, I knew I would fall in love all over again. Kathleen Kelly (Meg) and Joe Fox (Tom) have been emailing each other over the internet without knowing who either of them are. They can't stand each other in person but over the internet they are very attracted. This movie is so funny with Meg Ryan having such a strong personality every girl can connect with.
The Ones You Can Watch A Million Times
"How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days"
OMG, I LOVE THIS MOVIE. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's not on Netflix, thankfully I own it, and I suggest that all you girls should invest in it too! This movie starring beautiful Kate Hudson and super handsome Matthew McConaughey, seriously what a better couple? This movie cracks me up, and the title basically describes the movie. What's better than a girl who goes through the typical things that the average girl does to chase a guy out of the relationship? Nothing! Plus you're able to get a few tips on how to possibly not lose a guy if you do everything opposite as to what Kate does.
"13 Going On 30"
First of all, when I was looking up gifs for this specific movie this one absolutely cracked me up! Jennifer Garner does such a great job in this hilarious movie where her 13 year-old-self just wants to be "thirty, flirty and thriving" and it turns out that some magic sparkles do the trick for her. Jennifer doesn't go through the proper maturing, she just skipped to being thirty, so she is almost awkward when talking to guys, and is learning on her feet. This movie is hilarious for any kind of get together, makes you thankful for what you have, and IT'S ON NETFLIX!
"Mean Girls"
Do I even need to say more? Mean Girls is that classic movie that every girl can quote. This movie made fitting in almost look easy, and don't we all want to be a little like Regina George? Even though "fetch" didn't happen, this movie sure did—it's also on Netflix!
"Princess Diaries" and "Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement"
I clumped both of these two movies together because it's a series. These two movies, along with all of the Disney princess movies, has made me forever want to become a princess. I love how these movies made the geeky girl become the princess, it shows us that we all have a little bit of royalty in us. Both of these movies shows how the friends who started from the bottom with you are truly the best kinds of friends.
Classic American Rom Coms
"Bridesmaids"
Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph are the dynamic duo of BFFs, and when Maya becomes engaged, their friendship goes through some turmoil. Kristen and Rose Byrne (fiancé's best friend's wife) end up fighting over who is actually Maya's BFF. I have had this happen to me before in some of my past friendships, and this is such a good representation of what usually happens.
"Pitch Perfect"
Hell yeah pitches, of course, this is one of my top 10 chick flicks! Beca, Anna Kendrick, a college freshman, is seduced into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls a cappella group. I love the fact that this movie is all about girl power and how girlfriends always stick together even when times get tough. It's definitely a pick up when you're feeling down, or if you and your girls are spending the night and want to watch a movie that you all can sing along to.
"This Means War"
Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Do I need to say anything else? These two babes guys, who are partners for the CIA, and are also BFFs, wage in a huge war both trying to win the heart of Reese Witherspoon (swoon). If only we all could have two gorgeous men fighting over us.
These are just a few of some of the best chick flicks, there are obviously way more! Some other titles that are on Netflix that are also great are: "Maid in Manhattan," "Hitch," "Legally Blonde," "Legally Blonde 2," and "The Switch." Movies that make my heart swoon, eyes tear up and make me smile from ear to ear are my favorite kinds of movies. Guys, don't worry, most women don't only watch chick flicks. I know I love action and adventure movies too, but sometimes it's nice to watch a romantic comedy for a change. Check out any of these movies if you've never seen them; however, be prepared to either tear up a little, laugh your head off, and smile like crazy, because these movies are guaranteed to do the trick.
