Superheroes are everywhere.

From superheroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Batman, The Flash, Wolverine, and more, our movie theaters and now even our TVs are filled with people who save the day. However, there is a pattern that is evident; the people who save the day and get the credit for it tend to be men. The women are mostly sidelined and used as just a device to further the stories of the men. Maybe Agent Carter was a step in the right direction but it was cancelled after just a mere two seasons while shows like Arrow continues to its fifth season. It's no secret that Marvel and DC have failed to put a strong female superhero in the center. However, there are FINALLY talks of a couple of female centered movies coming out in the near future. So as we wait for those movies, here is a list of some of the badass female superheroes who deserve more recongition.

10. Trish Walker, Jessica Jones

aka Hellcat. In Jessica Jones, she is simply portrayed as the best friend but even without her superhero name or a label, Trish dominated the show with her passion and need to protect those she loves. Plus, her relationship with Jessica was #sistergoals. Hopefully, we get to see Trish suit up and take her rightful position as Hellcat in season 2. After all, Trish is capable of making all "hell" break loose.

9. Gamora, Guardians of the Galaxy

Green and strong? Well, she's not the hulk. She's better. Once on the side of the villains, Gamora betrayed Thanos and eventually, teamed up with the Guardians. She showed everyone that she can take care of herself and that she will take down whoever gets in her way. She's sassy, sexy, and could kick your ass with her eyes closed.

8. Black Canary, Arrow

Laurel Lance is more than just the past lover of Oliver Queen. She went through a lot and she still managed to keep it together. After her sister's "death," she took over as the Black Canary. Laurel trained with Team Arrow and from that moment on, she refused to become a victim again. She fights to protect and won't give up until justice is served. Watch out because once she opens her mouth, there is no escaping.

7. Rogue, X-Men

Rogue went through a lot in her past and has come out stronger than ever. She went from being a villain to being part of the X-Men. She can literally take what she wants whether it be your powers, memories, or thoughts. Her character development is on point and she has proven to be a vital part of the team.

6. Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman

With her appearance in Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman made an lasting impression on the audience. She's a warrior princess of the Amazons but don't let her title as a princess fool you. She has all the abilities that superman has and with her fighting skills, she can take anyone down. If you still haven't watched the trailer for her upcoming solo movie, you should probably do that now. (Click Here For The Trailer)

5. Jessica Jones, Jessica Jones

Jessica is known to be one of the more tough, snarky, and pessimistic superheroes. She gets annoyed with people easily and has a resting bitch face. However, she has a soft side for the people she loves and an inner desire to protect everyone. Look "Jessica Jones" up in a dictionary and you'll find the words "badass" and "independent" under her name. You really don't want to mess with her because she can easily choke hold you with one hand.

4. Daisy Johnson, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Once known as Skye, Daisy was actually revealed to be an Inhuman known as Quake. Alongside Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy fought against Hydra. As an agent, she was strong, feisty, and a leader to the team. When her abilities emerged, she created a group called the "Secret Warriors," which was made up of other Inhumans to fight against Hydra. She protects those who can't protect themselves and would even sacrifice herself to do it.

3. Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff, The Avengers

Wanda started off working with Ultron but then quickly realized that she was on the wrong team. She joined the Avengers and trained alongside them by the end of the movie. With her ability to control things with her mind, she helped the team in many ways. She is independent, loyal, and a fighter. She's been through so much but she still manages to push through. The things she can do with her hands will make you wish you never messed with the people she swears to protect.

2. Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, Captain America, The Avengers, Iron Man 2

Black Widow can take you down with her two bare hands. She calculates her decisions and makes no room for mistakes. Even without powers, she manages to kick ass and has moves that are inhuman-like. She is also very intelligent, loyal, and caring. She has a dark history but she still manages to stay focused on the task at hand, which is to fight for those who can't fight. She can be wearing a dress with heels and can still take down a group of 20.

1. Peggy Carter, Agent Carter

One of THE strongest and most badass agents ever. She lived in an era that really looked down upon woman and when women were always stuck with the desk jobs. The men could never imagine a women who can fend for herself. However, Peggy didn't let men define her and she became one of the most, if not, THE most iconic characters in the marvel universe. She helped find S.H.I.E.L.D and moved up the ranks with her own two feet. However, at the end of the day, she wasn't trying to prove anything. She was just trying to fight for what was morally right. Give her a gun and she can take down a whole organization... overnight.

Of course, these are only some of the many female heroes that exist in comics. Clearly, women are badasses and they are equipped to protect themselves. They stand for what they believe in and as Peggy says best, they know their value and they will continue to fight for those who can't fight for themselves. Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes (and gender).

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
