10 Basic Things to do During Fall

Fall is perhaps the best season of the year. The weather becomes cold enough for sweaters but not too cold for a jacket, the smell of burning wood fills the evening, and the leaves finally turn into their pretty colors.

Although the semester may start and the weight of textbooks fill backpacks, this marks the beginning of "holiday season" and family gatherings. It's the beginning phase of the end of the year and there are so many simple things anyone can make the time for during fall that sometimes you just want to drop all of your responsibilities so you can do all of them.

1. Stock up on everything pumpkin.

So what if it's basic? Pumpkin flavor is amazing and can be found in nearly everything on shelves, from shampoo to candles to cake mix.

2. Buy an actual pumpkin.

Pumpkin patches are a great excuse to take a picture proving you did something fall-related. It's always fun to go with friends and later carve one if you're feeling brave enough.

3. Watch your favorite scary movies.

Some people prefer horror and some people prefer family-friendly. Whatever your taste, watching a Halloween movie on a rainy night with kettle corn is never a bad option.

4. Drink as much coffee as you want.

It's finally cold enough where you don't have to feel judged for getting a tall latte anymore. And let's not forget the famous Pumpkin Spice Latte that the gods of Starbucks give us every season.

5. Shop online for even more sweaters.

Already have fifteen different sweaters but feel you don't have enough? Shopping for these is the best wardrobe you could wear in the fall.

6. Sit by a bonfire.

There's something very soothing and altogether beautiful about a bonfire. Big or small, it's a memorable way for close friends to gather round and talk about anything.

7. Prepare multiple Halloween costumes.

This is the ultimate weekend/month for college students. Pictures on pictures of people's crazy and unique ideas are all on display for the love of dressing up and partying.

8. Go hiking.

There's never not a good time to hike and fall is probably the best time because the leaves turn their beautiful shades of red, yellow, and orange. Also, you won't be sweating a lot when you reach the top.

9. Walk in a corn maze.

They're usually inexpensive and a good excuse to get lost. Some are scary walk-throughs, so remember your flashlight and bring a friend for moral support.

10. Watch college/pro football.

Tailgating with good food and even better people. The greatest American sport is in fall for a reason.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
