When Absolutely Nothing In Life Goes right

Everybody knows those days. The days when absolutely nothing goes right. School is crushing your spirits and people are getting on your nerves. You made a million commitments and there isn't enough time in the day. You're completely stressed out. Rather than the big, ominous low points of the day, it's the little things that just happen to go wrong that really make you want to break down and cry. These are the annoying little slip-ups that always occur at the worst possible time.

1. The Alarm.

It goes off at the wrong time, or it's too quiet. Either way, you get off to a late start and you're freaking out because you might miss the midterm that you studied for all night.

2. Bedhead.

As you sprint into the bathroom to quickly get ready for this nightmare of a day, you notice that one insurgent hair sticking straight up in defiance. Nothing you do will tame that monster.

3. The Lost Necessity.

Your keys are most definitely not where you left them. You remember placing them on your desk last night, but they're gone. You're already crunched for time but before you can leave, you're crawling around on the floor behind your desk discovering a hidden treasure trove of hair ties and loose change, but not your keys.

4. That Stupid Tree Root.

It's never bothered you before. You usually step over it. This one day you're in a hurry and you decide to plow through without taking notice. It takes you down. You get the feeling it's been watching you this whole time, waiting for this opportunity to add misery to your existence.

5. Zipper.

There's so much crammed into your backpack that the zipper just won't budge. You have to yank again and again until at last, it moves a centimeter.

6. The Switch.

You've made it to class, barely, and you're pulling out your notes. Your stomach drops as you come to the undeniable realization that you grabbed the wrong notebook and, as far as this class is concerned, you're sunk.

7. The Spill.

First class done and you have ten minutes to get to your next one. It happens to be all the way across campus. In your rush to pack your bag, you grab the wrong end of the folder and the papers go flying.

8. The Disappointment.

Five spare minutes to grab a bite to eat. You get in line at Starbucks for that frappuccino that will help you make it through the day. You take the drink in your hands, only to be greeted with bitter despair as you discover that the barista got your order wrong.

9. That Look.

It feels like everyone is judging you and you can't take it anymore. That one person who you've never really liked gives you what you perceive as an insulting glance and you're about to snap.

10. The Rejection.

All day you've been running around and you're exhausted. You finally make it home and you can't wait to crash on your bed and forget everything. It hits you. You never found your keys. You're locked out. This sucks.

Bad days affect everyone. They are the absolute worst, but are unescapable. The good thing is, they make the great days even better, and they make for funny stories to be told in the future.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
