10 Back-To-College Archetypes As Told By IDW's 'The Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye'

Well, we have lost our way, nobody's gonna say it outright.

August has now set foot and for many college students old and new, it means school's back in session. So comes the flux; people you know and will soon know, what each person is like and what will come to define them.

But where's the fun in just listing these people by a normal alias? Instead, we're going to address them by characters from one of my favorite ongoing comic series; IDW's "The Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye" (Now relaunched as "The Transformers: Lost Light").

WARNING: There might be spoilers for said comic series.

1. "The Brainstorm"

The engineering students are usually what you call Brainstorm.

A weapons designer, engineer, and smart-ass, Brainstorm has seen a lot. And try as you may, there's no stopping him from making a snarky comment or just exasperation at whatever situation.

Not only are these folks smart in the classroom, they've got more than enough bite to back up their usual snarkiness. And yet, it seems like they've got some kind of secret. For all their snark and smarts, they might not seem so willing to get close to someone.

Tread lightly with these, my friends.

2. "The Chromedome"

This is the person trying to move past their ex-lovers; usually because said ex turned out to be less than what they initially seemed like. And if their exes are still around them for whatever reason...well, that's just drama waiting to happen.

In Chromedome's case, while the ex wasn't abusive in any way, they were just pricks... to put it bluntly. Worse since his ex was none other than Prowl, the Autobot strategist, ex-detective, and just not a nice 'bot to be around.

Regardless, these peeps are resilient yet vulnerable and have an incredible memory. Word of advice, they don't hold back on insults or chewing out. But often they won't finish if you're not worth the effort; as their exes usually aren't.

3. "The Drift"

The samurai and former Decepticon / now Autobot is a spiritualist, and in some cases a cautious optimist. But when the chips come down, his swords slice and will definitely dice.

These people are the optimists; whether they believe in good will, God, or just in karma they are there, with kind words and a smile.

Of course, that can get annoying to Chris Traeger-levels if you're having a sucky day and they're there. Still, not a bad person to have around. If for no other reason than they'll tell you exactly what you want to hear.

4. "The Ratchet"

You'll recognize the Ratchet among the older med students.

At this point in his life, Ratchet feels he's losing his touch; and his hands seize up so much he has to smash them with a hammer just to get them moving. He's saved the life of every Prime since Nominus, so he's pretty old.

In a similar regard; Although not actually being doctors yet, college Ratchets are very despondent about the what the future might hold for them. Maybe it's just the sheer amount of work, labs and scrub hours that comes with being a med student. But despite that gruff exterior, they do care. So have their backs, as they will definitely have yours in return.

5. "The Rewind"

The archivist with a seemingly infinite data storage space and a camera that never runs out of battery. Rewind has been around for a long time; enough to have seen literally everything, so don't try to screw around with the details.

These little guys are usually seen with a camera or smartphone; they're always filming or taking pictures as if every moment must be captured. And if you get in the way, prepare for a mouthful.

Despite seeming incredibly air-headed and vain, they just want to treasure every moment (not that they'd ever say that out loud)

And besides, they make for good drinking buddies and better drinking stories. Especially when going through old photos/videos, and connecting the dots.

6. "The Rodimus"

The (debatably) lovable hothead.

The wannabe Prime has requested that many Autobots join him on a quest to find the mythical Knights of Cybertron. And many did; Rodimus believes he's found the best of the best to travel with. But mostly it's lonely nobodies hanging out pretending they have friends now.

And as the image shows, he's a charming speaker. And these peeps are also optimistic to a fault, almost to the point of delusion. Yet, you know they're better than that. Maybe they just need a catalytic push to make them better.

Either way, they're gonna be around so brace yourself for all the hotheadedness.

7. "The Rung"

Usually, the psychology majors fall under this guy.

The Autobot psychiatrist that's apparently been around since the days of Nominus Prime can't seem to get people to remember his name. Yet, he sticks around, because the 'bots need him. And they like him and vice versa.

They just seem so trustable, and so patient. You know you can break down the walls around yourself around these folks; they've got advice, ears, and their hearts waiting for you.

But if you somehow forget their names, this tends to happen.

8. "The Skids"

As an outlier, Skids was a mutant among the humans, er-Cybertronians. But his power was that he could be an ace in any subject and skill. But he appeared out of nowhere to the crew of the Lost Light.

These peeps' origins are unknown, yet they're just so good at what they do. And their answers as to how and why are even vaguer.

Yet, in an odd twist they're surprisingly humble. Or at least, humble enough to not rub their skill in your face. So they're ok for the most part.

9. "The Swerve"

Let's face it. If you don't know a guy like this, you ARE this guy.

Swerve, the 'bot that everyone knows and likes, but isn't really anyone's friend. That's all he wants to be, even if he hides it behind chatter and bartending.

The one just won't shut up if they start talking. Even a short passage from them is at least three sentences. But they're at least fun to be around because life will NEVER be quiet when Swerve's around. But all they really want to be is your friend, so give it shot. Besides, like how Swerve turned out to also be a metallurgist, maybe they've got a talent that'll help you out when you need it the most.

Bonus points if they/you are one heck of a bartender.

P.S: They might be a bit insecure.

10. "The Ultra Magnus"

You thought Chromedome was savage, wait till you get a load of the Ultra Magnus.

Whereas Chromedome will tend to remember moments usually centered around himself (as most people do), Magnus will remember things YOU did. And remember it down to a T. He's a strict rule-follower. If a 'bot so much as sneezes, Magnus will chastise you for sneezing in the wrong area.

But despite that, the Magnuses do ace at knowing good information. Struggling in a class or stuck on a problem? The Magnuses will likely know what to do.

So despite all that rule-following and rigidness, you can count on them. Yet, you keep wondering what way they see the world...

College is always a sea of old and new faces, usually more new than old. But ultimately, all these people are the ones you're going to have to be around for at least a year.

So go out there and make some friends. And pray that both of you don't want to strangle each other by the end of the first semester.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
