As 2016 has come to an end, this marks the new chapter for many lives. And as we grow, our music tastes grow with us. So in the new year, here are 10 artists to listen to -they aren't that well known, but they will surely make an impact in the music industry in 2017. Each of these artists have recently released work in 2016, or will be releasing work in the upcoming year. Either way, all of these artists are worth listening to.

1. Super Duper Kyle - Similar to: Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino

Also known as Kyle!, an indie rap artist, with nineties-inspired tunes. His music is lighthearted and extremely fun to listen to. His unconventional rapping and relatable lyrics have left his fans wanting more. As his career continues, he's gotten more exposure and even recorded a song with new rapper "Lil Yachty."

2. Kali Uchis - Similar to: sZa

Most of you may know her voice from the American Horror Story Season 6 promos. Her vintage vibes lead well into her music. Kali's unique voice and distinct genre of music has kept her fans in anticipation of her full studio album.

3. Oshea - Similar to: Bryson Tiller, Chris Brown

Truth be told, there's not much on social media about O'Shea, but his music is more than just your everyday rapper. His songs, "Deep" and "You" are classic takes on modern R&B.

4. Majid Jordan- Similar to: DVSN, PARTYNEXTDOOR

This duo signed to Drakes record label, OVO Sound, has been in the spotlight for the past year. Although not a very well known group, their music is a twist of R&B vocals, with electronic beats. After being on tour for the past year, they also released their first album "Majid Jordan"

5. Kehlani- Similar to: Tinashe

Many may know of her because of a huge scandal that ensued in 2016, however her music speaks louder than some rumors and gossip. Her voice is unique and her fans know that. And has many anxiously waiting for her newest album.

6. KAYTRANADA- Similar to: SNAKEHIPS

Kaytranada's debut 2016 album greatly stood out as one of the best of the yar. This album features impressive beats with familiar voices like Vic Mensa. Displaying different types of genres throughout one album, its made a huge impact and is worth listening to.

7. Chance The Rapper- Similar to: G-Eazy, Childish Gambino

Chance The Rapper has made a name for himself in 2016 while working alongside Kanye West. After releasing his EP "Coloring Book", and releasing singles like "No Problem FT. 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne", his great work has granted him numerous Grammy nominations.

8. Roy Woods- Similar to: Tory Lanez, Post Malone

As another artist signed to Drake's record label, the music has got to be great. He's even recorded songs with Drake himself and has released his own music periodically with great songs and great features like label-mates Majid Jordan. This unlikely R&B artist is definitely the one to watch.

9. Dvsn - Similar to: The Weeknd, Frank Ocean

Yet another artist signed to OVO Sound, and for good reason. Dvsn toured alongside Drake this past year and his R&B vocals and instrumentals are refreshing to hear. Personally, "Too Deep" by Dvsn made my summer special, and this album is worth much more attention.

10. Maluma - Similar to: J Balvin, Nicky Jam

Maluma is a Colombian artist who is the most view

ed Latin artist on YouTube, as of 2016. With numbers like these, the good music doesn't fall much far behind. He's had a hit song in 2016 with well known artist- Shakira. If that isn't convincing enough, maybe his looks will seal the deal. His song, "Borro Cassette" is a classic Spanish song with a reggae-ton beat that leaves you wanting to dance the night away.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
