9 Apps That Have Perfected The Virtual Reality Experience

For the first time as a Millennial, I feel like "Back To The Future" may have predicted what 2016 would look like correctly. The future is here. Cue virtual reality, the next big thing in the tech world.

Virtual reality is what it sounds like, a way to be completely 360 degrees immersed in a virtual world. Whether its a game, an news story or Google map-esque experience, virtual reality is wild.

Multiple brands, including Google, have released headwear that you simply slide your smartphone into in order to create the virtual reality experience. Your phone does the rest, with apps programmed to create a two-part screen that simulates the 3-D experience.

You can peep what it looks like below:

Itching to get your hands on one of these many headsets to experience virtual reality? I don't blame you. The effect of virtual reality combined with the accessibility of having it right in the palm of your hand is something straight out of a science-fiction novel. And if virtual reality is anything like other tech trends, we can trust this is only the tip of the iceberg. (Remember when iPhones only came with 4 GB of storage and no apps? LOL.)

You can buy a wide array of virtual reality headsets, starting around $15. As soon as you do, make sure you give these apps a try:

1. InMind VR

Battle your way through a human brain by killing off diseased neurons with the nod of your head. Excellent for your inner science nerd.

2. VR Ocean Aquarium 3D

Okay, maybe I'm a little biased because I am a total marine biology nerd, but if you have an inner mermaid, my suggestion is to download this app ASAP.

3. Hometown Zombies VR

Allow yourself to unleash your inner '90s kid with a VR app that allows you to blast zombies in the world

4. Goosebumps VR

Another good app if you're a fan of a nostalgia. Bring your old school love of Chuckie and company into the new age of 2016 where they become 3-D and that much scarier.

5. Coachella

If you missed the action this past spring or just love the vibes only a music festival can bring, you 100% need to download the Coachella app that allows you to enter their virtual reality

6. RYOT

Huffington Post's news app delivers a breathtaking virtual reality experience that could be the future for all news. With the app, you truly feel as though you are a part of the action and see the realest perspective of today's issues.

7. Subway Surfer

Feel the 3-D experience to its full effect with Subway Surfer as it takes you through an animated journey through a flooded subway system. Keep your surfer upright by maintaining balance with your smartphone and VR headset.

8. GermBuster

Explore the world of virtual reality in a cartoon, crimefighting, hygienic game that will have you blasting away germs by taking advantage of virtual reality's hands free functionality.

9. Cedar Point VR

You can take a ride on Cedar Point's actual roller coasters without stepping a foot in Sandusky, Ohio. While there are several roller coaster VR apps out there, this one was by far the best.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
