10 Amazing Wedding Theme Ideas

Weddings are one of the most common topics for many women today, mostly among 20-somethings. I began experiencing "wedding fever" my senior year of college. I have attended two weddings in the past four years -- my sister's and my brother's -- and will be attending a friend's in September. I was my sister's maid-of-honor and I'm a bridesmaid for my friend's wedding. I have come to love the idea of planning and executing these ceremonies, because weddings are the events where special memories are created. I also enjoy examining themed weddings and seeing the ideas that people come up with for specific themes.

1. Comic Book

This is one theme that is dedicated to nerds. I have seen so many weddings that revolve around DC and Marvel, and they always look awesome. Some ideas I have seen include having the groomsmen wear superhero shirts underneath their suits, having a Batman officiant, wedding cake split in half to depict half traditional/half nerdy, and having Star Wars invitations.

2. Beach

This theme is so romantic. Party favors tend to be messages in bottles, flip-flops are provided for guests to walk on the sand, candles line the aisle, and guests can dress more casually.

3. Book

For this category, a lot of couples will choose a specific book to have as their theme, such as "Gatsby." This would include flapper-styled bridesmaid dresses and very formal decorations, and possibly 20's-30's music for the reception. That's just one example. Another could be Harry Potter, which would include house colors and wands.

4. Outdoor

Outdoor weddings often involve tents for the reception and lights being strung up for night-time festivities. Outdoor weddings are probably my favorite, since there's so much potential and free reign for decorating.

5. Vintage

These types of weddings usually depict more traditional weddings. The most obvious aspect that will be vintage is the bride's dress. She will wear something borrowed or designed to portray a certain time period.

6. Classic

This is also a traditional kind of wedding, but will most likely have traditional vows, a sit-down dinner with three courses, and specific dances that follow the meal.

7. Halloween

This is a fun kind of wedding because guests are encouraged to dress up in costumes for the ceremony. There will be pumpkins, skulls, spider webs and other Halloween paraphernalia. The bride's colors may also reflect the holiday, which include orange, black and purple.

8. Cosplay

This is also a fun kind of ceremony. Guests are usually asked to cosplay along with the bridal party, but that's not always the case. Sometimes it's just for the bride and groom, and it can go in many different directions: video games, comics, movies, TV shows, etc.

9. Renaissance

I got this particular idea from "Gilmore Girls" when Liz and TJ get married in Stars Hollow. They had a court jester as the flower girl, a troubadour/minstrel officiant, and they planted a ceremonial sword before reciting their vows. It was very romantic.

10. The Hobbit/Legend of Zelda

This is my favorite idea because it's my own wedding creation; a combination of The Hobbit and Legend of Zelda. I will walk down the aisle barefoot and have a flower wreath instead of a veil, the bride and groom will carry swords, and there will be music from both themes. The ceremony will be outside and the reception will be towards the evening.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
