As a music fanatic, I listen to almost everything. But, when I need to study, or am jamming out, I tend to listen to early 2000 pop and alternative music. These are just a few bands and artists that I adore.

1. Passenger

Starting in 2003, Passenger, a four-piece group from Britain, England, has opened for several high profile acts in the UK. Now, with several albums out, and a new group and album out this year they are still going strong. Several songs of theirs include: Let Her Go, Hearts on Fire, and Feather on the Clyde, among others.

2. Mikky Echo

Not a band, but an artist, Mikky Echo started out with various bands while trying to make it in Nashville. His track 'Who Are You, Really?' attracted the attention of producer Micheal Volpe, who helped him put out his first official single 'Pull Me Down'. From there he has put out quite a few albums and had his music showcased in movies such as Paper Towns. Other songs include Smile and Kids.

3. Walk the Moon

Known well for 'Shut Up and Dance', Walk the Moon started in 2006, but only officially formed in 2010. The name is derived from a song by the Police called "Walking on the Moon." Songs that are also by them include Anna Sun and Different Colors.

4. Twin Forks

Forming in 2011 in Boca Raton, Flordia, Twin Forks has had their music featured in television shows such as Reign, a popular victorian show revolving around Queen Mary of Scotland. Some of their music includes Back To You, Cross My Mind, and Something We Just Know.

5. Walk Off The Earth

Based out of Burlington, Ontario, Walk Off The Earth took the internet by storm with their cover of 'Somebody That I Used To Know'. For five years they have captivated fans, and continue to do so. Songs by them include Home We'll Go, Rule the World, and Hold On (The Break).

6. Vance Joy

Originating from Melbourne, Australia, Vance Joy put aside getting his law degree so he could focus on his music. His hit 'Riptide' swept around the world, becoming a mega-hit and pushing him farther in the music industry. Other songs by him include Fire and the Flood and Mess is Mine.

7. Young the Giant

Started in 2004 as The Jakes, but officially signed in 2009 as Young the Giant, they have brought audiences to tears with their song 'Cough Syrup', as well as releasing other songs such as My Body and Apartment.

8. American Authors

Dropping out of Berklee College of Music, American Authors signed with Island Records in 2012. After dropping the single 'Believer', they had their first smash hit with 'Best Day of My Life', with many amazing songs to follow. (Pride, Luck, and What We Live For, just to name a few.)

9. The Killers

Formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2001, The Killers have rocked the charts with Mr. Brightside, When You Were Young, Somebody Told Me, and Read My Mind, four of many songs released by the group.

10. Andrew McMahon

A songwriter for groups such as Jacks Mannequin, and a singer himself, Andrew debuted his first work for himself April 30th, 2013. This was followed by his first album, which released October 14th, 2014, under his moniker Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. Some songs by him include Cecilia and The Satellite, Fire Escape, and High Dive.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
