10 Unexpected Advantages Of Being Short
Brooke Cagle

Being short in stature definitely has its advantages. There are disadvantages, but these perceived disadvantages are often discussed. This article highlights the advantages that short people have in comparison to people of average or above average height.

1. Airplane travel is easier for us.

One of the most enjoyable advantages of being short is being able to easily fit in airplanes. A person can sit comfortably in a seat without having their knees pressed uncomfortably against the chair in front of them. Also, a person can sit cross-legged in the chair. As a whole, shorter people tend to have more space in planes.

2. So is traveling in pretty much any vehicle.

As with airplanes, being of short stature can make traveling in any vehicle easier. Once again, there is more space available, and you can squish into smaller spaces.

3. We'll crush you at hide-n-seek.

Hide n’ seek is quite fun if you are short. There are more places to hide, and these places may not be where the “seeker” would normally check, due to the shape/location/size of the place.

4. Sometimes we get the children's discount.

Sometimes due to height, a person can be mistakenly identified as an adolescent, especially if said person is with parents. Though annoying, this can also be a positive because tickets and such become less expensive.

5. We can climb on things without being judged.

Sometimes at stores, some items are located at the top shelf. As a result, and a lack of step-stools, a person must climb the shelves to reach the top shelf. Luckily, there tends to be a lack of judgment among the staff who may observe what is taking place because it tends to happen so often.

6. Some shirts can double as dresses.

Shirts tend to run long which can be quite annoying. However, sometimes, shirts that are too long can be transformed into a cute dress.

7. Our tall friends (or tall strangers) are useful in the right situation.

One of the most enjoyable advantages of being short: tall friends or people. Besides being your friends, they can be your shade, wind-blocker or person to hide behind. Strangers can serve these purposes as well.

8. We can shop in the kids' section.

Children’s clothing can be quite comfortable, and being short means that you have the luxury of being able to wear this type of clothing. Also, certain types of clothing from the children’s section, such as sweatshirts, fit better than sweatshirts from the adult sections.

9. We can wear heels literally whenever we want and they make a noticeable difference.

When wearing heels, the change in height is noticeable. Though being short and wearing heels makes you average height, you feel tall which is enjoyable.

10. We actually fit dorm beds perfectly.

You can easily sleep in these beds without your feet hanging off the end of the bed or even being near the end of the bed.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
