10 Adulting Struggles That Are Actually Good For You

Mom, can you make my doctors appointment?

1. Working crappy jobs.

Serving jobs, for example. But in the end, we were able to afford that new phone, replace our car bumper, and even open a savings account. And build a good work ethic.

2. Going to school

High school was either amazing or the absolute worst. I get it. But you probably made at least 1 home skillet (bestie) and learned a lot about yourself.

3. Unsuccessful relationships

These are THE worst. You spent too much time loving the wrong person. Blah, blah, blah. You're hurt. Confused. And just overall stressed. But in the end after you're done being bitter and angry, you grew and learned so much. You love yourself so much now! All it took was cutting your hair and having mini break downs at random times to let it go.

4. Getting along with your parents.

Don't get me wrong, that's something that needs to be done regardless of age, but as you get older, you should be able to discuss things with them maturely. No yelling. No "running away." They're your parents. They love you. They're always double your age and are simply not going to always understand you...or why you ju ju on the beat.

5. Waiting for things you want.

They say patience is a virtue. Ya well, not when you absolutely need that new purse, phone, or shoes. C'mon! But no seriously, have patience with everything. Including yourself.

6. Planning.

We're so used to having our parent(s) set up appointments that were willing to allow our teeth to rot, or risk an arm falling off. (Okay, not really) but you know you procrastinate! Just make the appointment, doesn't it feel better after you do it!?

7. Having different opinions.

OMG, you're about ready to slap someone in the face over the election. Or over which way the toilet paper goes. You never realized how opinionated you were until you became an adult. Geez. But do your best to see other people's perspectives. It doesn't always necessarily mean either of you is wrong. You've had a couple good debates by now (Facebook counts) and you're so getting better at keeping calm and ending it positive.

8. Feeling like you're slacking.

Maybe you are. Maybe you aren't. Set some goals and take it one day at a time. You'll never have your life figured out down to a T, and you shouldn't spend each day going crazy trying to. And, whatever you do, DON'T compare your life to others.

9. Saving money!

The root of all evil right? You want to buy yourself everything you see. You want Taco Bell whenever you please. I know. Pace yourself, save the amount of that you're comfortable with saving. Budget. When you end up saving just a little, you're pleased!

10. Friendships.

How many friends you have doesn't determine how awesome of a person you are. You're literally awesome all the time. Whether you have 1 friend or 5. Or 0. Keep being yourself, and the right people will come along.

All in all, growing up, "adulting" is simply trial and error. You'll never be perfect but that's the best part. Each time you make a mistake or mess up, you can only go up from that point. So the next time you find yourself battling these struggles, remember it will only help you grow into the person you truly are.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
