Whether you are a freshman or graduated 10 years ago, you know high school can be pretty rough. I'm sure we have all thought of things we wish we could have told our younger selves. Here are ten things I wish I could have told my high school self.
1. Finish strong.
A saying that my parents always said when I was younger. Finish strong in school, and try. There were so many lazy nights where I could have studied but didn't. Starting strong in the beginning and finishing strong in the end is definitely something I would have told my younger self.
2. The senior guy is SO not worth it.
Or pretty much any high school boys, for that matter. End of story.
3. Don't be so worried about what other people think.
High school can sometimes feel like an endless vortex of rumors and mean girls. But once you get out into the real world, you realize that people are always going to be mean, and have their unwavering opinions. But it doesn't matter anymore.
4. Friendships come and go, but your family will always be there.
I had so many friendships that turned bad, and my family was always there for me. They are the friends and family that will always be there when others aren't.
5. Lay off the heavy make-up (especially the eye liner).
I know you’re excited to finally be able to wear make-up, but going to the extreme will only make you look scary. For real.
6. Don't waste your time on high school parties.
Honestly, don't get caught up in lame house parties where the guys get in fights and break your moms' expensive vase.
7. Please stop posting your life all over Facebook.
As much as we all love Taylor Swift, those heartbreak lyrics are just not working for you.
8. Don't waste your time on heartbreak.
Guys, especially in high school, are so immature. Don't waste your time hurting over a boy who has a lower IQ than you.
9. Try out for the sport you like, even if you don't make it!
I had a few friends who loved to play soccer but never tried out for the team because they were afraid they wouldn't make it. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there!
10. Cherish your friendships. At least the ones that really mean something.
Like I said before, friendships come and go. Some of the friends that I thought would last forever definitely did not. But, I still have close friends from school and those are important friendships that I'm glad I didn't take for granted.
