Philosophy Has Given A New Perspective To My Life - And My Mental Health

Ever since I was a teenager in high school, I wondered a lot about the meaning of life. I always came up with new ideas.

Philosophy Has Given A New Perspective To My Life - And My Mental Health

At times, I was told it is all about happiness. Other times, I read books that mentioned the key is to be useful. Today, I think the meaning of life is to have a sense of peace.

I have created quotes, such as "true love is to accept everyone for who they are," and "always show unconditional respect." In fact, I have made artwork with these philosophical ideas. For example, the image below is what I consider an artwork related to how philosophy has played a role in my mental health.

There are also certain philosophical school of thoughts that describe how I think. For example, I am a rationalist, empiricist, pragmatist, skeptic, relativistic, and subjective.

However, I additionally describe myself as mutualistic.

Mutualism is what I consider to be a philosophical school of thought. It means to be fruitful and grow as long as we voluntarily choose to help each other.

Philosophy has given me purpose and a reason to live.

I want to be a role model for people and future generations. Because of philosophy, I discovered that there are three kinds of pleasure. Two of them being physiological pleasures and psychological pleasures.

However, I have also added a third one, in which only rational creatures can experience: the legacy pleasure. I want to leave a legacy of hope, kindness, and peace. Every person I meet, even if they did not like me, deserves my respect. Respect is how I watch out for my mental health and the mental health of others. I genuinely enjoy using philosophy as a tool for my mental wellness. Anyone who studies philosophy can also contribute their own ideas as well.

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
