Recently, my parents surpassed me with the sweetest puppy, and over the last few weeks, I have learned this puppy is better than any man who has come my way. Here are a few reasons why,

1. They're loyal.

A dog won't ever leave you. Literally never, my puppy trails behind me all over the house.

2. They don't talk back.

Okay, they can't talk at all, but I mean you always win the argument here. A man is always trying to prove a point.

3. They're excellent listeners

You could go on ranting for hours, and the sweet pup will just look at you like a little angel listening to you. Not to mention, they won't think you're crazy or look at you like you're insane after.

4. They give endless hugs and kisses, without asking.

Boys can be weird about this, and with a dog you can literally get all the hugs and licks you want.

5. They always want to snuggle.

You don't have to wait for a certain point of the day to snuggle with your pup like you would have to with a man. I snuggle with my puppy literally every five seconds I think. best. thing. ever.

6. They don't care if you gain a few pounds.

Girl go ahead and eat your ice cream, because all the dog is going to care about is if you'll share it with him or not.

7. They're always excited to see you when you get home.

You go home to a guy, and they might be grouchy. With a dog though they just run up to you, so excited, tying to lick your face, tail wagging, and are so happy to see you. I mean c'mon, who doesn't love that?

8. They feel guilty when they do something wrong.

Every now and then pups get into mischief, and when you get on to them, they just kind of sulk and give you those sweet puppy dog eyes. With a guy, well he'll probably not realize he did anything wrong in the first place.

9. They never complain about your cooking.

You can literally fix whatever you want to eat for dinner without having to worry if a guy is going to like it too. Your pup always loves when you feed him!!

10. You can train a dog, but you can't train a man.

A man has quirky habits and shrugs off things sometimes that annoy you, but with a dog you can raise it to be the perfect companion.

So the next time you're thinking about getting a boyfriend, maybe you should consider a fur friend.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
