A guide to the coldest months of the year

How To Survive The Winter

Personally, I'm not much of a winter person. Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays and all the cozy aspects that come with cooler weather, but if I had to choose, I would pick fall over winter any day. This year, we didn't get to experience much of fall at all. Let me tell you, I am not happy about it at all. It seems like we skipped all the aspects of fall that I love and went straight to winter. With this change in weather, a lot of people around me seem to have been brought down by it, including me. My peers and I seem to be facing a lack of motivation, and just a general lower point in our moods. So for those of you like me, who have a rough time surviving through the winter, here are some ideas to get you through it.

1. Take advantage of the weather.

If you're not a fan of the cold, it can be easy to forget about the positive aspects of the winter. There are some, however. When else can you go sledding down the largest hill you can find, or stay in all day drinking warm beverages and watching movies without needing an excuse?

2. Bundle up.

The good thing about it being freezing outside is the layers of sweaters and scarves we can wear to keep warm. Boots help as well! Planning my winter outfits always helps improve my mood, because at least I won't be turning into an icicle any time soon!

3. Watch out for your health.

Nothing can make the winter feel worse than getting sick. My advice for not getting sick is pretty simple. Gallons and gallons of tea, regular meals and getting enough sleep. I also believe that doing things that make you happy can help your health!

4. Do holiday-ish things

Despite my dislike for winter weather, these negative feelings don't usually kick in until after the holidays, because I do love the holidays. My plan for getting through the next month and a half is to do as many cheesy, cute and fun holiday things as I can. Decorate for the holidays, bake some Christmas cookies and spend time with the people you love. Do whatever it takes to get into the holiday spirit!

5. Have things to look forward to.

It always helps when I know I have an event to look forward to, so I would make plans regularly so I never have time to be cranky about the weather. Whether it's a concert, a show or just dinner with friends, it always helps to have things to look forward to.

I know the winter can seem never-ending, but we do have the holidays to look forward to! Hopefully these ideas help those of you who are dreading it getting even colder over the next few months.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
