Why You Should Go Greek

There are those who have always known that they wanted to be a part of Greek Life.

But then there are those people who aren’t so sure, and they need some convincing. So, I’m here to tell you all the amazing things about being part of Greek Life on campus here at UW Madison.

Greeks never feel alone.

The first reason you should go Greek is the sappy and cheesyreason that you have heard way to many times. It’s that you will make lifelong bonds with amazing people whom you will call your sisters or brothers forever. It’s true.

You will belong to an organization you fit into. You are bound to form incredible bonds. And as a result, those people will be your support system, your encouragement when you need it, and your lifelong friends.

Greeks have the most fun.

Being Greek means socials almost every weekend. These socials will always be themed, insanely fun, and provide you with opportunities to meet tons of new people of the opposite gender. Even better than socials, Greeks have formals. Formals are a great excuse to find a date and get dressed up. Formals even sometimes consist of travelling to exciting places such as Milwaukee or Chicago and staying overnight in hotels.

Greeks help their communities, so they have better resumes.

Every fraternity and sorority is involved in philanthropy. Each house has their own cause that they provide for, and philanthropy in Greek Life is typically fun. Chi Omega has a fashion show; Gamma Phi makes delicious grilled cheese; Alpha Phi has Alphatraz; you can pie a Pi Phi; and you can graba graba donut from Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Greeks have the best networks.

The people you meet will not only be your life long friends but they will open up so many new opportunities for you. You will find out about job opportunities you would have never known about before, and have people to recommend you for them. When you graduate you will have connections to people all over the country. And you will forever have a connection with anyone who was ever a member of your house nationwide.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
