In case you missed it, the U.S. House of Representatives has voted Planned Parenthood be defunded. Of course, this has to go through the Senate and Obama, who will most likely veto it. Still, this ruling was a spit in the face to every person with a uterus in the United States.
What people fail to realize is that the videos that supposedly portray Planned Parenthood selling "baby parts" is actually them discussing the charging of shipment of fetuses for stem-cell research, something the baby carriers agree to before having their procedure. Do you really believe the top health care provider for cis women would sell baby parts for thirty dollars? This accusation is exaggerated and believed by people around the U.S because it's what they want to believe. It's another reason for pro-lifers to discuss why "abortion is bad," and the fact that they must resort to setting up women's healthcare for destruction proves how unsupported their argument is. Abortions are also not government-funded, so protesting the defunding of PP for something you don't pay for is ludicrous, especially when abortions and abortion-related information only account for 3 percent of the things that Planned Parenthood does for women.
Let's discuss why defunding Planned Parenthood in the name of preventing abortions is wrong. One of PP's main priorities is providing sexual education, birth control, and other services which contribute to the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. When all of these services are terminated it will cause thousands, probably millions, unwanted or unexpected pregnancies. This will be the reasons that MORE cis women want abortions, and the reason why more unwanted pregnancies will occur, because their providers can no longer provide the things that kept them safe. Of course, the first thought is that people with uterus's can just go somewhere else for these services, but that is unlikely.
54 percent of Planned Parenthood's clinics are located in rural and undeserved areas. Other health care providers in Texas alone say it's impossible to replace the services Planned Parenthood provided for low-income women. Indiana republicans have offered a list of alternative providers for PP, and one was listed as "Indiana Women's Prison." So without Planned Parenthood, some women should just visit prisons for birth control?
Planned Parenthood has provided 549,804 breast exams. 3,724,558 visits for birth control. 4,425,791 STD tests. Imagine the people who will be affected by this all over the United States. Defunding Planned Parenthood is immoral and wrong. This decision is one that shows what people in the United Sates think about women. That we cannot make our own decision and men in government should do it for us. Having an abortion is not easy, but it is a person's choice. Shutting down an organization that has helped people all over the United States because of your own personal beliefs and false accusations is unfair. This is why we must stand with Planned Parenthood and demand that we be given the choices we deserve.
