There is something to be said about a person whose confidence does not overcome them. Their success stems from knowledge of their own power, and power to be humble. What is humility? A modest view of one’s own importance; humbleness. What is its significance? The 21st century is full of innovations. It has become a world that revolves around each individual. Everything is at our own fingertips. Technology has become so vital to our lives that without it- we can so easily fall behind. We have been raised to be assertive, self-assured and self-reliant. These qualities hold great gravity to making or breaking a person in the world of prosperity.

We can be smart, pure, go-getters, bestsellers, but our attitudes and the ways we handle it say almost everything about us. To boast with pride is one of the worst qualities someone can have. Don’t get me wrong; having satisfaction of an accomplishment is not a sin. But pride is having an excessively high opinion of oneself or importance (excessive being a key word here.) Many can argue that pride helps a man to be something more of himself, and that confidence is the key to success.

But that’s not true. Humilityis. Knowing that success is in your presence, or your future, and using it to fuel a fire can make you lose sight of a lot of great qualities that keep you whole, grounded, and comprehensive. Pride makes things blurry. It can consume you. It has the power to alter why you do things and how you conduct yourself. It eats at you and always leaves you wanting more.

Us 21s century kids have become so entitled to everything we do, that walking around with pockets full of pride isn’t that rare for us. We have been cradled since we were born- in a politically correct world. And most of us have received almost everything we’ve asked for. Working hard for something is a hard trait to teach a generation who hasn’t as a whole, had to work hard for a lot of things. We see people run around, pretend to be adults, pretend to be educated. They pride around thinking that the world is theirs. That just like we were taught, everything is at their fingertips.

But can you imagine a world with just a little humility? With no boasting, or priding, but a knowledge for each individuals importance. Humility isn’t just about being modest of our successes. It is about the acceptance of oneself and others around us.

Humility gives us a slight idea perspective. It creates an opportunity for the rest of us. Pride hurts. It can make a person almost intolerable. Granted, that doesn’t mean that success should be hidden or quiet. But there’s no greater thing than satisfaction, without having to tell everyone about it. Pride puts people above each other in an endless mind game, but humility levels it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
