Fall's Great Things

Fall's Great Things

Well, now that summer is slowly leaving us, and fall is creeping up… Some of us couldn't be more excited.

The past few weeks have been miserably hot, walking to class. It's like mother nature knows the weekend NFL football has  kicked off and fall is not far behind. I may be biased here, but fall is probably the best season we have. Here are some great reasons why.

1. Football. Need I say more? Do any other reasons on this list even compare to this one? We're back in school, back in the routine that summer has given us a break from, and now we get to watch games Thursday through Monday. Fantasy football leagues are made, bets are placed, beer is consumed, and rivalries are back.

2. Pumpkin spice latte. Typical white girl. Whether you drink them or you don't, you know that know fall is in the air because pumpkin spice latte's are in every girls hand. Yaass.

3. Leaves. You can drive through the WV hills or walk through campus and see the beautiful colors of red, orange, and yellow all along the trees. Not many things are more beautiful than that sight.

4. Bean boots. Once again, this might not apply to you, but if it does you couldn't be more excited. You are finally able to throw on your favorite leggings, socks, and your oh so missed, L.L. Bean Boots.

5. Cooler weather. This means that there is no more uncomfortable sweating while walking to class. You're able to dress for the same temperature outside as well as in the classroom. What's better than that?

6. Patagonia, your favorite hoodie or pullover. We all can wear our favorite Patagonia pullover or hoodie that we've missed during this heat wave.

7. Leggings. Even if you're a guy, you have missed these. We, girls, on the other hand have been waiting for this moment since winter. We are now able to go buy five pairs of black leggings and it's perfectly acceptable.

8. Rain boots. Guys absolutely despise these and I have no idea why! But, ladies, we can now wear our favorite Hunter boots. Ah, the sweet sound of waking up to rain.

9. Halloween. This means a lot of things: candy isles stocked until Thanksgiving, Candy Corn, trying to plan your last minute costume, and one of the greatest weekends in Morgantown.

10. Daylight savings time. Even if it is only one day, gaining one hour of sleep is something we all look forward too. That extra hour is crucial.

11. Thanksgiving. One of the best holidays of the year with endless amounts of food that leave you feeling miserable, afterwards. For some of us, this is the first time seeing our families since we moved out in August.

12. Hunting. Even if you don't like to go hunting, you can't deny how good deer jerky is.

13. Winter and Christmas are around the corner. We're one season, month, week, day, hour, minute and second closer to winter break and Christmas time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
